you could also use an anvil to merge an elytra and a chestplate together so you will have full armour.

also, it would be fun, that if you added 2 sticks to the elytra, you would be able to slow down by pressing [S]

I like the idea of using the anvil to combine the Elytra with a chestplate. It does look silly when you're wearing all armour and decide to wear an Elytra - it's almost like having a "bald" spot. Please make this possible Mojang! I think this would looke really cool!

I just think you SHOULD be able to wear armor and elytra at the same time. And ya I get your back could get busy holding elytra, armor, capes (mabe even back packs or inventories, idk) but I guarantee that Steve won't lose his posture.

I think it'd be a great idea to add the ability to add some kind of armor to the elytra, it could be an additional use for the smithing table. Even if it doesn't give the full protection of the armor type you'd combine it with, it'd be great to balance out the way armor looks when wearing it with elytra. I think making the armor elytra provides minimal (similar to that armor set's boots) or no armor would make sense since as it currently stands, elytra is already a pretty op item.

What I wanted to happen was that people could use the smithing table and add ores like iron diamond gold and nether it’s to make the durability and protection to the player better and greater.

A enchantment book that lets you connect a chest plate and elytra together with an anvil.

Chest plate and enchantment book then chest plate with elytra. Or elytra and enchantment book then elytra with chest plate.

Also be able to use stone cutter so you can uncombine them to upgrade with a another chestplate.

If combined with diamond chestplate be able to upgrade with netherite ingot without disenchanting the chestplate or elytra and re enchant it.

It might be enough just to allow protection enchant on elytra actually. This way they are still weaker but makes it easier to defend against creepers. Guaranteeing not being one-hit on hard currently requires two blast protection pieces if elytra is on (full proc 4 is enough with chestplate) so you become much more vulnerable to other mobs (especially vindicators)

It probably would b better if the elytra had it's own item slot so u could use full armor and elytra at the same time.
