In my "Mushroom Island Revamp" post, I talked about Fairy Dust, gained from the Fairies that are on Mushroom Island. This is a more in-depth look at the item.
Fairy Dust would give the player the ability to fly (as if the player was in creative) for a short period of time. It would look like Glowstone Dust, but would have a magical shine on it.
When the player consumes this item, the player can press double space to fly, as if they were in creative. However, the player still takes damage. (falling, flying through lava or fire, etc.) After it wears out, the player returns to their previous non-flying state. Also, the dust can be applied to gravity blocks (gravel, sand) and make them able to defy physics like the rest of the blocks in Minecraft.
However, the Dust has consequences. You can't use it in the Nether or the End. Fairies will attack players who are flying. Phantoms will also attack you even if you have kept up on your sleep. Also, the Elytra can't be used during or directly after your flight.
Fairy Dust would be a great addition to the game because it adds another dimension to the survival experience. It's also great for raids on other players bases. A stealth mission would be twice as deadly if you sneak in using Fairy Dust. You can gain the upper hand in a fight by using Fairy Dust for your escape. Fairy Dust would allow players to explore the upper limits of the Minecraft world all while in the survival experience.
