How I'd do chameleons is they only spawn in Jungle biomes, are attacked on site by ocelots and parrots, will attack termites or other bugs, can change color randomly or depending what they're standing on (becomes harder to detect by predators), and can be tamed (placing bug infested blocks nearby (can also clear bug infested blocks quickly and enter love mode) (when breading, they behave slimier to turtles)) and ride on your head and shoulder.  There could also be three types the Jackson's (spiky), the Veiled, and the Panther Chameleon.

I feel like maybe you should be able to grab termites off of the termite hills and feed them to the chameleons to tame/breed them.

The way I think chameleons should work is that they can be tamed using spider eye. Will only attack insects or arachnids. And will become the primary color of the block they are standing on. They will lay eggs in a clutch of 3-4. They would add variety to the animals in Minecraft since there are no reptiles in the game. They would have no predators and eggs would be smaller turtle eggs.

Love this idea! Maybe you could collect chameleon shedded skin and combine them with armor pieces to make a camouflage armor set, or armor piece which helps you hide from hostile mobs. Similar to how players use turtle scutes to make a turtle helmet.
