Description: The Longbow is a ranged weapon. It resembles a taller, more elegant version of a bow (ends are slightly curved away). The wood it is made from is very slightly lighter than that of a normal bow, not birch light, but definitely lighter than oak.
- Type: Combat
- Durability: 450
- Renewable: Yes
- Stackable: No
- Sounds: Shoot (Twang is louder and longer.)
Obtaining: Longbows are not craftable; they can only be obtained via the methods below.
- Illusioners - (This weapon would replace all the current bows held by Illusioners) Illusioners have an 8.5% chance of dropping a bow when killed by the player. The chance of dropping a bow is increased by 1% per level of looting, allowing up to an 11.5% chance of dropping.
Usage:
- Ranged - Longbows can be drawn back by using it. When the arrow is being drawn, the longbow will be held sideways, at which time it cannot be fired, the player is reduced to a sneaking speed, and releasing will only unload the bow. After little less than a second of this portion of the draw, the player will be reoriented upright, and the avatar will move its body sideways to hold out the longbow straight in the direction it's facing, and the second hand pulling back the arrow. During this phase of the drawback, the player cannot walk but can face any direction, and can now fire the bow by releasing the use key. Zoom will be significantly greater than a normal bow, and will only occur during the firing positive phase. The statistics of damage and knockback are the same as a bow with Power 5 and Knockback 1. The arrows travel 50% farther than those a normal bow.
- Enchantments - Shown below. (All enchantments are compatible, including Mending and Infinity.)
- Infinity [Levels - 1]: Known enchant.
- Unbreaking [Levels - 3]: Known enchant.
- Mending [Levels - 1]: Known enchant. This enchantment has +50% the effect on this weapon than it does on other weapons.
- Curse of Vanishing: Known enchant.
- Fuel - The longbow is good for 3 items worth of smelting. (It is not recommended to use this item as fuel.)
Arrows: Just arrows. Same old arrow statistics as a bow, save the damage and whatnot mentioned in Usage.
- Stackable: 64
In-Game Application: This weapon would be an addition to the overall endgame meta. It shares some of the properties of a bow and has its own uniquenesses. This could probably fulfill what the trident was meant to be, a weapon that surpasses a fully enchanted bow with its own mechanics, but the trident was too situational. The longbow would have a wider, more basic range of use. It's overpoweredness is made up for by the difficulty of its drop.
I am worried about this and suggest that the Illusioner gets its own dungeon (maybe a wizard tower)to make this drop easier to pinpoint. One of the biggest complaints about the trident is that it is so tedious to find, seeing how you first had to find a drowned, then fight the drowned, then only have a chance of getting it for your troubles. I think that giving the Illusioner its own dungeon (maybe adding multiple per dungeon) and making it a miniboss would at least ensure its presence, making the drop more reliable and skill based rather than blind hope.
Thank you for considering my suggestion. More to come.
