Here's an idea: Implement new colormap files for the color of shadows, sunlight and the sky. The sky already changes color in different biomes, so it can't be that far from having colormap support, and I know people would love for MC to have a better color pallet for lighting. Pertaining to the Overworld, the sunlight should be a pale yellow by default, with most snowy biomes washing the color out a bit more and with maybe even a sort of orange-y tint in taiga biomes. The sunlight should also be tinted more orange and get a bit more intense as the sun sets or rises. Obviously, a sunlight map is not needed for the Nether because there's no sunlight there. Now, the color of Overworld shadows should be slightly blue-shifted and change from biome to biome in a way that complements the biome's natural color pallet. In the Nether, maybe the shadows should be tinted red to match the color scheme. These new colormaps should work exactly as the foliage.png and grass.png files work. I know that many people would love for this to be a feature because it would give them a better way to complement the atmosphere of their texture packs. Got a happy, vibrant texture pack? Make the colors a bit more defined to keep the feeling going! Have you put together a realism pack with a somber mood to it? Bring that feeling further by toning down the colors a bit! Or maybe you just want to make the sunlight purple-ish or pink-ish for a fantasy setting? Go crazy with it and add your own touch to the game! I honestly think this change would help a ton in making the game look and feel better for everyone, regardless of whether your computer can handle shaders or not.
