Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Nether Brick Rod

Nether brick rods (or possibly just Nether rods) are nether-brick-colored rods, similar to End rods, but without the feature of lighting up an area. They can be placed horizontally or vertically.

The recipe for nether brick fences would be changed to use nether brick rods in the middle column, much like the recipe for wooden fences uses sticks in the middle column. This makes the recipes consistent and leaves room for nether brick walls to be added later.

Possible 3x3 recipe: three nether bricks in left column, three nether bricks in right column, three sticks in middle column. Blaze rods instead of sticks is also a possibility, although it makes netherbrick fences expensive.

    What is the point?  Why would we want this in Minecraft?  I cannot think of any reasons, so please give me some.

    Bilbo: Here are some reasons for having nether brick rods in the game.

    1. To Resolve Inconsistency. Dinnerbone tweeted earlier that the team now has guidelines on which blocks should have walls (stone and brick varieties) and which should have fences (wood varieties,) but pointed out that nether brick fences are an inconsistency. In addition, the 3x2 block recipe is normally used for walls, not fences. This partially resolves the issue..

    2. To Represent Spikes. Shouldn't nether structures be spikier? Currently, the only way to represent dense spikes is with End rods, but those give off light and are the wrong color for many builds.

    3, For Other Details. Struts or narrow side supports on bridges, alternative bars for a cage, steeples. Imagine any build where you'd like a narrow post, but don't want it to connect the way fences, glass panes, or iron bars would, or want it to be horizontal, or don't want the color and light properties of an End rod. (I'd actually like to see sticks be placeable the same way End rods are, but I kept this to one idea per post.)

    I see your point with the spikes part.  I think a better thing in this case would be a netherrack stalactite that could be placed vertically and horizontally.  They could be used in both nether fortresses and caves in the nether.
