    Yes this would be awesome for servers if it let you do it to players.

    Brendan, servers can use plugins to make custom commands, and the functionality of this can already be done with /give in vanilla singleplayer

    I think that you should only be able to use it when you have /op so it doesn't defeat the purpose of the anvil,

    further, I believe that It should be used as follows;

    or /rename @s Minecraft:netherite_sword SUPER SLICER

    This would be very nice and i thing that the command should be ran like this /rename Item:hand{Name/Id:<examplename>}

    and you would hold the item in your hand
