    all the villagers should be miners (with helpful supplies and food)

    and these miners should be neutral (they have hands and pickaxes)

    if they hate yo they will attack then get away (even in spectator) then go away (they are very speedy miners)

    Since the next update is likely to look at caves, this could be an interesting feature in it. Caves desperately need more life.

    The only problem with this is that Villagers require spaces exposed to sunlight as part of their AI that determines whether a door is counted as part of a house. Other than that small detail, I don't see any potential problems with this suggestion.

    @Zsigmond Pölcz

    Strongolds, dungeons, and abandoned mineshafts are underground, not to mention caves.

    Have we finally found the Dwarves/Goblins/Whatever that have dug out the abandoned mineshafts? Because I enjoy the idea of an underground village-like cave system occupied by some kind of traditional fantasy creature.

    Or at least something similar.

    Maybe the villagers can mine, creating a (not abandoned) mineshaft, right next to it. With an excavator!

    Cool boy, I think that instead of The Villagers put The Zombie villagers or Miners.

    Wow, This's a good idea.

    @FadedBear486644 @Dinorauria Practically dwarven villagers, drwarfs in fantasy are known for their mining and blacksmithing capabilities, this structure could have naturally spawning smithing tables as well as grindstones, these special villagers could also sell much higher quality weapons.

    I'd love to see a Molemen village underground. Everything from Johnny Bravo cartoons to Sam & Max games have made reference to the Molemen.

    (EDIT: MORE DETAIL)

    These villages should also have underground lakes/overground lakes close, to make the fishing profession make sense, and farmers could focus on farming mushrooms in little dirt mushroom rooms as putting farming plots above ground could give them away to pillagers. I would say these professions are necessary for the underground villages due to the fact they wouldn’t have farms as their main form of sustenance, which would then add to the rarity of the villages spawning as they would HAVE to spawn near a body of water.

    There could be giveaways from the surface too, like little trap doors with ladders leading down to the village in a clearing with not many trees around (suggesting they have used wood in the village to make doors). I would suggest for them to be found in cave systems or on the sides of ravines just like abandoned mineshafts, with lanterns and torches all around to make sure the light level is high enough for mobs to never spawn in the village directly. Mobs can still walk into the village however, as of course it won’t have defences and it would be inside a cave system already. Buildings could either be built into the walls or they could have the ceiling high enough to build structures in the caves themselves, depending on what’s easiest. Iron bars instead of windows, mainly stone buildings, furnaces in most, if not all houses, maybe even little glass casings with pet silverfish in them, etc. To be totally honest I just think baby cave dwellers with little miner helmets on would be the cutest thing ever. Lore-wise they could have moved underground after deciding it would be safer after being attacked by pillagers, but little do they know they can also be raided underground by the evil mob that appeared in the minecraft dungeons trailer!! Spooky right?

    I imagine this every time I go down into the deep. It would be so amazing to find dwarven villages deep in the depths, or villager miners with a sprawling encampment and tons of food and supplies for trade, as well as precious ores

    While reading this I thought about abandoned mineshafts and how this could put a very interesting spin on to them. All the vilagers could be miner themed and have a working rail system that circles into or around the village from the working mineshafts. Just an idea, I really hope the central idea comes to light.

    How about adding vines, make them in a large cavern, and even with holes in the ceiling, so it looks like it fell from the surface?
