    I think Worms can be used as the moles feeding item, which can be found in random dirt blocks. These could also be useful for fishing and potions.

    moles could be worked to add danger and potential reward. maybe make them volitile like endermen, yet befriendable to find structures, and they pathfind towards cave-like areas so you would have to manually strip mine a massive gap to attract them... and if you make it so they dont go down to the diamond layer that really could mix up underground exploration

    Idea: if killing one it will drop:

    -Mole's Paw (used to brew a new potion, called the Haste Potion)

    Maybe they drop claws and like shedding claws and can add to the pickaxe , so a buff +1 to digging speed max 5

    They should also, like how dolphins make you swim faster, let you mine faster when nearby. Moles could also boost crop yields when allowed to live in your farm areas as they aerate the soil.
