I hope Mojang doesn't step in and bans everyone

Create your own private server and just play with friends and family and you will not have that problem.

    here's an idea

    PARENTAL CONTROLS

making the rules conform to the most sensitive groups does not make the game better, it only makes the game fun for that one group, in this case CHILDREN.

don't ruin the game for everyone else just because you didn't think enough about the consequences.      (I'm talking to Mojang/Microsoft). You can't make everything child-friendly just because children play it.

parents should be the ones protecting their children, not the people who make games. if the parent doesn't want their kids to see a certain thing, then make it so they can choose what servers they can join so they can only join the ones with the least garbage.

I think this would be cool, but having a way to report players could lead to another kind of abuse, a far more serious kind.

I agree and think that Minecraft should have some system of security check and if the person did something bad and the admin seen it then I think that next time Minecraft could do a feature to keep a close eye on the person who did that.

It seems that on certain servers there is a feature that blocks players who speak rudely or curse other players

This is highly infeasible. Aside from the fact that any censoring technology is probably going to _teach_ your children fun new words by bleeping out such innocent phrases as "basement," the game is in 3D. You'd need something quite computationally intense to search not just blocks in a plane, but on any diagonal or even far into the distance. I could see someone putting blocks tens of hundreds of meters apart, but set up so it spells a bad word facing spawn.

I doubt this can be fixed without completely ruining the experience, and I'll also add that perhaps the problem is not the _game,_ but the community on those server(s).Technology can't, and shouldn't, solve all problems.

Get together with a group of friends and build your own server (it's educational, and not really that hard!) or go buy yourself a Realm (or just run on the LAN if that's all your kids care about). You could make it private to only some well-behaved kids in the local neighborhood and perhaps some interested parents.

Why do people have to do this? I feel like this is something that should've been added since day one in MineCraft. I'm not sure if there is a "Censor Chat" option, but if there isn't then they should add it. I think that this should be applied for wood signs, books, and for naming objects because you know... You can type things into it and it can be publicly visible. They should add a "Report Player" in the pause menu when playing on a Public server. Where you can select the player to report, select the reason why you want to report them (ex. Inappropriate Chat, Harassment/Bullying, Cheating or Hacking, Inappropriate Username, etc.), and when you send the report, it should go to the server admin and they will take action in kicking and/or banning them.

Look you can't control what people do in Minecraft and if you are having these issues most servers will ban people for building "inappropriate things" so really you need to be reporting this to server staff on the servers you play rather than Mojang. Another thing is you can't stop people from building certain things or writing certain things because Minecraft is a game for everyone NOT just for kids as some people think. The whole point of Minecraft is creativity and if you take away "offensive and inappropriate" things from the game it looses that free and creative aspect everyone loves it for. Some people do like to spend hours mining gold in survival to build a giant golden "eggplant" however some like to spend time creating gigantic structures to make their world look good. The point is it's a creative game so you can't limit peoples builds.

This is kinda stupid. I get what your saying but most players are kids and not all kids are innocent. Mojang has no control over the servers players make, mods and admins do. By the way, you don't have to be on a server just to play the game, that's what creating your own worlds are for. Now one is just gonna follow what you say just because you don't like something, everyone is still gonna do what they want, don't like it don't be around it.

I suppose at best the upper limit of what a game client could do is add further parental controls to censor chat input on the client side, or perhaps even outright disable chat except for specific UUIDs or something, all settings behind a password.

well this is something that server admins need to take note of as a report button

This is actually super smart. And it could work in multiple ways as well. You could report players on server for multiple things like inappropriate behavior, hacking, cursing, and other stuff as well. Then, the game could “review” the footage of like the last 5 minutes or something like that of the gameplay, and would decide if it’s hacking, inappropriate, or just an overreaction. This is a smart idea!

The problem is present in any online game. Rules can be made to try and correct the behavior; however, it is a never ending battle. Online portions of games aren't rated for a reason...it cannot fully be controlled. If its a server your on, report it to admins if it goes against their rules of the server. If not, find a new server. It's the unfortunate part of online gaming. Mojang could implement a report section, but "reporting" is wildly abused in numerous games. We cannot control everything. MC is one of the most grief/troll heavy games. MC is unique to where it's hard to know who did something, unless you actually see them in the act. The reality is that it is our duty as parents to restrict content. Is it wise to allow young kids play online...not at all. They're interacting with strangers all across the world when online in real-time; anything can happen. My advice to you is to find a good server that enforces family friendly rules, and don't get upset if something slips through the cracks. IT WILL HAPPEN.

I've seen a bit if this but it's mainly not curse words, and please try and see if the server admins can do anything it's announced but I don't think mojang can do much

Add an optional chat filter, bc some people still want to cuss, so that way, it’s easier to deal with without ruining it for others, which is a prevalent problem with trying to make games kids friendly

I agree with this post because just today on a hive server i was playing just build and someone built a mans unit and i reported it i dont know if anyone else did or not but i didnt see the "____ has been banned from server for inapropreate reasons" in chat so i hope that this somehow gets fixed in servers.

Hi sorry I'm late to the party.

I can actually understand why this is an issue being as minecraft is a game targeted towards kids. And honestly you shouldn't be cursing or posting inappropriate content on an E for everyone server. At the same time this is the internet and you should educate your daughter on the subject.

With that being said along with ways to report users perhaps on certain servers we can add certain commands like censoring out or preventing the use of curse words. There are also lots of servers out there that are designed to be kid friendly.

With respect to the person two comments above me, it is not reasonable to expect the owner(s) of a very busy, public server that operates for everyone's enjoyment on a free-for-all basis to investigate and instantly respond to something as minor as someone building a "corncob."

Said owner will be incredibly busy keeping the server secure and operational, preventing actual griefing, keeping infrastructure operational (both in and out of game), and probably maintaining in-house plugins. They don't have time to pop in and confirm that someone built an inappropriate structure, and on top of that, after all the things they've probably seen that are worse, will probably consider it funny or not a cause for concern. However, automating this would only lead to abuse.

Also, flat banning someone on the first apparent offense is quite harsh no matter what.

In general, I would not expect a local server owned by the person down the block to handle this sort of thing, much less one visited by hundreds or thousands of people. Treat it like you would visting 4chan or something, where you can expect rude people.

    -------------

With regards to the comment directly above this one, the issue is about people building rude things. A chat filter wouldn't help and would likely only worsen the experience further (imagine getting bleeped or banned for the words "assassinated," "basement," "partition," or "homonym" -- all of which I've personally experienced thanks to a large vocabulary)!

It's important to realize that one of the most significant reasons that Minecraft is popular is the freedom the game provides. You may be able to appease some people temporarily, but if you really want this game to last, do NOT forget this.

true but if you join an anarchy server then you might as well be asking for it. It has "anarchy" in the name.

No offense but that's why they have parental control on most devices now. When it comes to servers they dont monitor it .its the server owners who are suppose to and then it's up to them on what they allow to.an extent Kinda like voice chat and chat in general all are not monitor it would be very very hard to monitor all the servers and chat for unacceptable content. This is the general response from most gaming companies. It's your kid it's your responsibly to monitor your kid online don't rely on a company to say what's best for your kid again. Not trying to sound rude that just the general census from gaming companies they have parental controls for a reason it blocked multi-player because they can monitor it . So if you allow your kid to play online you must monitor it.. unfortunately this is just not possible for any gaming company to completely monitor everything on a game. It's messed up and sad people do these things but unfortunately that's how it is

Sorry, This is a open-world/sandbox game you can't control what other people do in a server that isn't yours, Also this game isn't made for just children its made for all ages 10 and up. add on to this if you have a problem with someone cursing/being inappropriate consult the servers admin/moderator.

Unless you're on a "featured server", the responsibility of moderation goes to the owner and the server admins. Go to their server's website and you'll probably find an area to report the user.

Also, be careful what servers she goes on because not all servers are suited to protect younger audiences. Only play on the most popular and trusted ones such as Hypixel, Hive, Cubecraft.

If you are not playing in servers managed by Mojang/Microsoft directly, I am afraid it is there to stay. Third party srrvers are independent and managed by their own administration. These servers can be owned by anyone, and any age really. It makes server choosing Crucial as the type of server (sky block, minigames, survival) is as important as knowing How well it is managed. For this reason I recommend servers with White Lists where you have to apply to be a member (majority is free and payed through donations or by the owner as a hobby).
From my experience these servers are the ones best managed. The White List makes it that some even require a short interview via discord or similar. It really pays off as the server community is sensible, be it silly too :D and certainly friendly for families.

I completely understand your concern for this matter. However, because Minecraft has no rules, it's up to the server owners and administrators to set up and enforce rules to ban inappropriate builds and actions. I don't think Mojang should take away freedom for players to build and do whatever they want. Most large servers such as Hypixel and Cubecraft have rules against non family-friendly content so it is up to them and their moderators to punish players who break the rules.
