I think leather gloves makes more sense than wood as the base tier.

And I don't think it particularly makes sense for them to give extra damage to any object.  It would make sense to allow them to give extra damage to a punch attack.

Let's be honest, the reason I said wood is what would leather do in real life?

Leather gloves would protect your skin and let you punch harder with less fear of hurting yourself.  Think of something like MMA gloves, just only made out of leather.  You could layer the part covering your knuckles to give more protection.

I think the crafting recipe should be

    D: Diamond

    /: Nothing

    L: Leather

    / / D

    / D L

    D L L

I like the idea, but those gloves are too overpowered.

    they should give:

    leather/golden/chainmail gloves: +1 defense points

iron gloves: + 2 defense points

    diamond gloves: +3 defense points

The extra damage should be an enchantment and should only work when unnarmed. (if it stacked with the sword or other weapons, it would be extremely op)

Martial arts I: +1 extra damage with bare fists.

Martial arts II: +2 extra damage with bare fists.

Martial arts III: +3 extra damage with bare fists.

This is a great idea. I think that the enchantments should allow you to throw stuff associated with magic like fire and blasts of ice, or pick up mobs and that kind of stuff

Basing this on the new hand armor slot, i think there could be a new way to work with this new item wich work in the next way.

    Glove

    1. This can be an glove wich cover the hand of our character.

2.This can be used on many ways to interact with the world of minecraft like more protection to the user, new enchantment to this new type of item that can spicy up the game if it done well, interactios with the mobs, enviorement.

    3. The glove should have the next effect when a player is using it.

    Extra protection.
Extra damage per barehand hit.(but in a lower effect)
Extra damage per hit when using a tool/weapon (but with a minimal effect)
Extra knockback per hit.(but with a med effect)
Extra speed when mining, woodcutting.(But with a small effect)

This armor also loses durability but in wich way:
When punching an unarmored mob, wheat, leaves and sponge block, using a weapon cost -1 durability
When punching a wood block cost -2 durability
When punching an armored mob, stone and metal block cost -3

With this new item now the player have new ways to interact and react to the mobs when using a block.

The extra damage helps a bit when using this new type of armor which coming when using it the amount of armor offered by it is lower than the Boots.
Now this is the easies armor recipe followed by the boots.

    Now the crafting recipe is:
    Legend: M = Material
    X = Nothing
    M X M

    Edited.

What if these gloves did extra damage when NOT holding a tool or weapon. Eg. Holding sword: no effect. Holding food, blocks, materials (iron diamond sticks) DOES do effect.

I like the idea of "Gloves" which give both armor and attack bonus when NOT holding an item.

    Recipe:
    0 = Nothing
    L = Leather

    L 0 L
    0 0 0
    0 0 0

As you can see it's less than boots so it would be perfect.

    Stats:
    Leather/Gold/Chain gloves -
+0.5 Armor (less than boots but better than nothing)
+0.5 Fists Damage (less damage than a hoe but imagine the potentials on enchantments.
    Ex.1 Blunt I - +1 damage when you don't spam it.
Ex. 2 Grip I - lose less durability on equipped shield and/or tool by 0.1 it may seem small but that means you'd have an extra 173 durability on your diamond sword plus you wouldn't need to keep finding an unbreaking for all your tools)

    Iron gloves -
    +1 Armor
    +1 Fists Damage

    Diamond glove -
    +1.5 Armor
    +1.5 Fists Damage

I'm not specifically talking about gloves. Bracers are also suitable, protecting the back of the hand and knuckles.
Unique enchantments will come in handy. For example, increasing the range of throwing snowballs, potions, etc. Or an increase in the speed of climbing stairs, vines.
Craft armor for hands, in addition to the main protective material, must contain wool or leather, on which protection is riveted or sewn.

Since we have copper armor, that should also apply to gloves.

Why wood gloves instead of leather like the rest of the leather armor set?
