When you are making your redstone suggestions, please note that Java and Bedrock will not have the exact same the same redstone systems - this would require redoing redstone system completely on one platform or the other. The two systems are functionally different and are going to stay that way. Please be sure to tag your suggestions with (Java) or (Bedrock).

Something like that should probably have redstone as a crafting ingredient.  The iron would be the solid component that allows it to stand by itself, while the redstone conducts the energy itself.

I'm honestly not sure it's worth it.  You save one block by being able to run redstone along a ceiling without having to place it on a block, and you're going to put that block there anyways unless you want exposed wiring.  The only thing that might be nice is if this redstone cable is waterproof, so you could use it in a place that is likely to get flooded.  Maybe it could even be able to be waterlogged.

The other issue is you're going to need another version of every component that is designed to be placed on blocks so you can interact with this cable without needing to place a block to place a repeater or a comparator and such.

    Even better:

    - Redstone Cable: directionally and vertically placeable like chain links are, forms T joints like redstone dust, with a recipe of redstone dust, copper ingot, redstone in a line on a crafting table

    - Insulated Redstone Cable: does not form T joints and provides zero redstone signal except at either end of the cable. Recipe of a sandwich/stack of wool carpet, redstone cable, wool carpet
