Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Torches burn out (edited)

please read till the end :) .. Make torches burn out. I know it was adder before and no one liked it but they should try again and explain how better the game would be because this would make Redstone lamps more usable... a torch should start burning out when it will be placed ... and if braked it will be damaged according to the time is has been placed ... just like other tools if they get used .. now they could make if the torch is burned out .. the torch will lose its ability to light and an item stick will fall... or just be replaced with a burned torch texture and if you brake the burned torch you will get a stick (sorry for my English i tried my best : ) )

Edit : this idea will also make nether more useful.. players will need to go for glowstone mining

    I love the realism -  torches don't stay lit forever in real life - but most people enjoy having torches as a cheap, easy-to-use light source for caving. I don't think this would be a popular change :(

    I agree that it logically should be in the game, but there's a point in games where realism meets fun and you have to choose which you want.  We need a cheap and easy lighting object, especially when putting down lights is about the only easy way of keeping our worlds from swarming with monsters.  Many players try to avoid using torches as permanent lights because they stand out and are boring, but that doesn't mean that they should stop working on their own.

    If they don't want to implement burning out why not implement unlit torches instead? They have done it in campfires. Then just add a datapack or two to workaround implementing burning out.

        As the lamp is a recent addition this hits me as a good idea. I know it was an original thought and the idea that one could either recycle the used material or even use some to relight said torches that have burned out is a good one. As well, it could be set as an optional piece in world options. Holding the torch in your off hand as a source of light is a great idea, even using the lamp in this way too. All this along with the idea of recycling the used torches hits me as one that has been delayed far too long.

    this would encourage players to upgrade to better lighting like lanterns or redstone lamps. meaning people won't use torches as much, except in caves.
