    Hi huntmom06 -

We know it's been a while since you've visited this post in particular, but in a discussion today, we took a look at this idea and we also have concerns about the OP nature of some of these features (for example the HP, block breaking ability, etc.) - some of these have also been noted by other community members in the thread below.

We recommend perhaps taking a look and revisiting this post, and possibly accommodating some of these ideas to help improve its chance of success.

Finally! Someone who remember this idea! You have a good plan for this idea except that there would only be 3, they should make them and their structure randomly generate. However, the chance of one spawning would be extremely rare. I was thinking that they would generate the way strongholds generate. Go to the Generation section of the website below and look at how they would generate. All you would need to do is tune the numbers down a bit then it would be a legendary find.

I really like the Idea, and therefore upvote it, though I don’t quite like the idea of it breaking blocks. I guess I’d be ok as long as that behavior could be toggled through behavior packs, though.

I totally agree with this idea.. except that the "REd Dragon" should spawn in the Nether... and we should make giant obsidian portals to let him through to our world. And I support the idea of it being tamable through the ender egg :D

Maybe it could hatch from the egg instead and then depending on where you hatch it have different abilities?

I think the Red Dragon shouldn’t drop an egg. But I like the idea with the saddle. Maybe just use a regular saddle though. The Red Dragon shouldn’t attack or be attacked by nether mobs.

I agree with GladCamiloC94 only I think it should spawn in the nether and the overworld, in the overworld it should be neutral and in the nether it should be aggressive. It could spawn above the nether, dinnerbone said he wanted to use the area above for something and the normal nether is too crowded for a giant dragon to fly around. A red fire dragon definitely deserves to be in a red fiery dimension.

YES! Except block breaking is a bit OP.

The drops, spawning limits, and its ability to be an overpowered mining machine is well too OP. It should have a rare spawn in the Nether with its rare structure. The size should be as big as the Ender Dragon because why not and something else. No other mob in game has the ability to breathe fire, that should be one of its abilities. It can breathe a long ranged fire blast that will do a lot of damage. Holding the Ender Dragon's Egg though for it to be tamed seems off. The Ender Dragon's Egg is a different species and so instead when the Red Dragon dies it will drop the Red Egg which can be hatched into becoming your new tamed dragon which you would have to raise in order to ride it. Also if this hopefully gets added in game I hope for it to have a sick animation and a cool new roar. One last thing though, it shouldn't have a spawn limit to where only 3 can spawn. Other players who share Minecraft world together want to have dragons too.

I love this idea but try nerfing(weakening) the dragon.

Tameable dragons...they could just be a little companion that follows you around for all I care, I'd do almost anything for my own personal pet dragon.

I Agree, just make it a bit less Over Powered, and more rare.

Lots of clever ideas! I think it should be less OP and less rare (Java edition world is 60 million blocks squared, nobody would really want to travel tens of millions of blocks to find one and return home without cheeky methods). Also, if it is tamed with the Dragon Egg, I think they should make the egg renewable (maybe it always drops the first time you kill the Ender Dragon, then like 1-2% chance of dropping from a respawned dragon).

In response to Blast Burner's comment regarding taming, I would say thats a smarter idea. Another alternative could be changing the Dragon Egg to look like something more generic so it could associate with both mobs.

it would be an awesome and super cool addition to the game but there should be a gamerule to disable the dragon as its going to be horrible in multiplayer servers and you will also need a way to heal the dragon other than instand healing (maybe chorcus fruit at a rate of 3 hp per piece)

I think its a little too OP, block breaking can be bad, for your builds, and the HP, I think about 250, at most.

Wow this idea is nice but the thing about being tamed with the dragon egg and there being 3 in the world is nonsense think about it there is 1 dragon egg per world once the dragon is defeated even if you use end crystals to respawn it when killed it wont give you another dragon egg making the other 3 dragons useless why is this a problem? Its not on single player but if you were to join a multiplayer survival world then the first person to kill the ender dragon on the server would get! Even if you kept the dragon egg that player would still get it so yeah.....there are a few flaws in this

I really like this idea. But breaking blocks... I don't know. Actually it can break blocks like glass, leaves or something like ravager does. Mojang really needs to add the dragons to the game.

I love the idea! Everyone's been talking about the Red Dragon since it was announced. It does seem a bit overpowered though. Perhaps if it was slightly less powerful and simply hard to find, it wouldn't be OP. Love the idea! Please add!

I think this idea is almost PERFECT. I mean, other than the block breaking. I think this because it’s like this dragon (unlike the ender dragon) has some sort of intelligence! Like you have to be WORTHY in order to have this dragon. I. LOVE. IT.

While I desperately want Mojang to add a Red Dragon into Minecraft, I don't think this is the way to do it. This seems more like a mob from a mod rather than an actual mob from the game. It's complicated, it's OP, and it just doesn't feel like it would fit into the game.

Here are my thoughts on how the Red Dragon should be implemented, these are how I think that Mojang would implement it into the game. First off, I agree that the model of the red dragon should be 3/4ths the size that of the Ender Dragon, and that it should be rare, but that's where I stop agreeing. I think that the Red Dragon should also have a structure to go along with it, but what I'm thinking of is that it should be a volcano. I will detail the rest of my suggestion in other comments due to the "charecter" limit.

    The Actual Dragon

The Red Dragon itself would probably generate in one of the volcanoes or in a large cave in the biome. Wherever it decides to lair, it should have a pile of treasure consisting of gold and emerald blocks. There could even be some chests containing some valuable loot, such as enchanted swords, enchantment books, and maybe some new items such as scales. The Red Dragon would be a fearsome opponent, maybe not a boss, but can pose enough of a challenge to keep you from taking the hoard right away. It would even attack passive mobs such as villagers, sheep, and cows. The Red Dragon would have attacks similar to that of the Ender Dragon, such as a fiery breath attack, a diving attack, and shooting a fire charge. They would all deal less damage than the ender dragon, but (aside from the dive) would set you on fire. The breath attack could have way more range than the Ender Dragon's to keep it from being just a worse version of the Ender Dragon. The Red Dragon upon death, would drop red scales, dragon's breath vials, random metal weapons from fallen adventurers, and maybe even some bones from said adventurers.

    Items

As stated before, the Red Dragon would drop red scales, which I will get to right now. The scales could be used to craft Dragon Scale armor, which would have defense between that of chainmail armor and iron armor and would grant you immunity to fire and lava damage if the full set is worn. The drawback of course being the mediocre defense and the armor losing durability faster than normal while on fire or in lava. If you aren't feeling that, you could just craft the helmet and make it into a potion, just like the turtle helmet. This potion would be called,"The Potion of the Dragon Slayer" and grant you fire resistance and strength effects. If that's too much, then maybe only a chestplate or leggings would be craftable.

I love it. Maybe could use a bit of nerfing though. I have always wanted the friendly red dragon in minecraft. I hate dragon slaying in video games and only give minecraft a pass in the faint hope of it getting added. I have heard that the dream is dead but if we work together we can do this! The dragon egg barley has any use, how cool would it be for it to be used to obtain a new mount. They could even ad new areas and mobs to fight, like the giant that has been sitting in the code unused for so long. Please help make a decade long dream come true. People have said that the dream died long ago, but we can make a change for the better in one of the most blessed games out there. Just because notch has been gone for years doesn’t mean we can’t make his wish come true. So please do this, not just for me, but for the one who gave us the amazing game that built our childhoods block by block.

Here’s a petition I made for it. Not many signatures but I hope it helps.

[petition link removed by admin, please let folks lend their support here, thanks!]

I really like the idea of adding the red dragon, but I think the dragon should be tamed by grabbing a red dragon egg and hatching it instead of feeding it the ender dragon egg. Grabbing the dragon egg should probably be hard as the egg should be located near a red dragon. The dragon will attack you with fiery breath once every time you go near the egg. If you hit the adult dragon, it will attack you to the death.
Fighting it should require a little less than the ender dragon fight, with 3/4 of ender dragon's health and nothing to heal it, but it should still be a powerful opponent.

If you hatch the egg, the dragon must be tamed and to tame it, maybe you have to feed it consistently for 5 in game days. If you don't feed it consistently(feed it one day and didnt feed it the next day, the dragon will not be tamed, and when It grows up, it will try to escape and lay eggs.

When tamed, it should be able to do what the ender dragon can do, but slightly weaker and deals fire damage.
Also, the drops should probably be what Durger King said.

Or you could just hatch it from the dragon egg like you does to resummon the enderdragon but using a nether star or something since its red it should be nether themed (also the end was supposed to be the sky dimension and nether is like hell so basically the red dragon is the opposite of the enderdragon)and when you hatch the egg it would turns red like burning obsidian in nether reactor core it should work like a turtle egg after it hatched it was a baby dragon you can tame it but you can't ride it until it grows into full size

A really thought out and cool concept! Except, for the maximum of trust, I don’t think having such a fast dragon would be a good idea. With chunks loading and the lag it would cause, it could become overwhelming. So maybe twice or three times the speed of sprinting.

Otherwise, the concept is amazing! It’d be such an adventure to spice up how boring Minecraft is sometimes. It’s a real, exciting challenge! And from completing the challenge, you actually get your very own dragon. But the thing is, with this thing wanting to follow you everywhere, it won’t be able to get through doors. It will have to be tiny. And having a mob just as big/a bit bigger than, say, a cow isn’t that bad of an idea. You can still ride it and it’ll still be a cute companion.
