Why?  And is this just a visual change or an actual item?

Both, really. It's just a thing that you could get as a source of guilt for someone who is cruel and evil enough to murder a baby villager.

Someone that cruel would just toss the toy into lava.... :/

Don't see how this is needed or even fits into the game to be completely honest.

It would be like decoration on a villager. If your asking why these should be in the game, ask yourselves why paintings, bookshelves, and other things are in the game. You could make a machinima better by putting one in your hand as you fall asleep. You could act childish and put one in your offhand. There are multiple possibilities that you clearly can't visualize.

Idea: you can use these as weapons. Toss them at creepers. That would be fun! Besides, Minecraft needs more weapons.

No. If you're asking why bookshelves are in the game, it is to make libraries and to boost enchantment levels. Paintings, we can make hidden entrances! And by other stuff, I will use flower pots. They don't have a beneficial use, but it fits the game WAY BETTER than toys held by baby villagers.

Oh, and how exactly will you obtain this item? I'm assuming either taking it from it's hands (which is cruel) or killing the baby (which is even cruel-er [if that's a word]) I also found it very offensive to ClayGoddess and Macchu when you said "multiple possibilities that you clearly can't visualize" I found it as you said that they don't have imagination. And to obtain the item, if it was used as a weapon, you would have to kill the baby. And to get another one, if you killed the baby with the toy, I think that would be super cruel. Adding this would just add a whole new level of cruelty to the game.

Many Minecraft players would find this item useless. I understand this would be useful for role play and machinima, but the're are mods out there that include toys, for example DecoCraft.

RiptideDolphin, you way over analyzed this, and you are probably finding as many ways as possible to criticize my idea. A wee bit of advice, think of this as something added to the game, not some random idea that you supposedly love to contemplate about negatively (I can't imagine how long you were trying to put this idea down).

You could craft them with terracotta or glazed terracotta. Plus, once, I saw a villager holding some bread. Now can you explain that‽

@RiptideDolphin, only java edition works with mods and not everyone has java edition.

It is a very good post.  And backing up two other posts I read you could trade for toys and win them in villager minigames.

Toys could be: stuffed iron golem, jack-in-the-box( only with a villager ) or toy steve.
