Hmmmm. Not sure about the shadows on blocks - it sounds hard to implement for something that wouldn't be a huge benefit.

The glowing glowstone is a very nice idea, though. I agree that the glowstone block could use some more character and flair.

Calculating all the shadows would make the game a lot more intensive on the device running it without any real benefit.  So no support on that.

How would you make glowstone look like it's actually glowing?

Right now the full cube blocks have slightly shaded sides, the top side being the brightest, north and south being slightly darker, and east west being slightly darker still. All blocks have the same shading, so, what if instead of having one fixed shading, there is a pre rendered shading directly connected to the day-night cycle, that shifts brightness on each side according to the sun and moons movement, that all the blocks can use in the same way as before, just sort of animated?
[edit part: it would need to be connected to what block was lit by daylight for it to make sense? and have the old shading for all other blocks as a default]

That would probably be relatively cheap compared to how much more alive minecraft would feel?

I’ve seen things like this in screenshots and stuff, but I have no idea how to get it. You’re right, it would be cool to actually have things like this as part of the game. But if this gets added, PLEASE make a way to turn it off in the settings. I already can’t play on my laptop because all the updates make it too slow; I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to be able to actually play.
