Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Bat Houses to grow Flowers

In the wild, bats are responsible for pollinating flowers.

A great use for Bats in Minecraft would be as a pollinator!  Have a craftable Bat House that can be placed on the side of any block.  A good bat house would mimic tree bark, so you could have six different types of Bat Houses.

Place the Bat House on a tall pillar or a wall in a grassy biome.  At night a 30/50/?? block radius around the Bat House has a chance to spawn flowers!

You could even make a couple flowers only obtainable through the Bat House method.  This would entice players to build one.

 

But how do you get the bats inside?  Well, with the new Bucket of Fish mechanic, you could Bottle a Bat.  Then right click it on the house to give it a new home.  During the day they sleep, and at night they come out to pollinate flowers.  Bat Houses can hold up to 8 bats, and the more you have the larger the area of effect.  You can tell how many bats you have because their cute little wings poke out!

Be careful.  Cats are predators to bats.  If you have a Bat House, you'll want to keep your Ocelots and Cats away.

Bat Houses would be a fascinating way to give them purpose in Minecraft!  I hope you like my idea.

    I'm just wanting to give Bats something to do, and this sounds cute.

    I realize that one could just do a Redstone farm for flowers, but the Bat House could have its uses.

    Bat houses are usually thin, to appear as if it's a spot underneath bark to live.  Minecraft could save the stripped bark of a log and use that in the crafting recipe.

    I'd also love to see this paired with some Bat Variants (Black, Brown, White with a yellow nose) ... it would make it really interesting.

     

    Additionally, and this is a big part of my idea, it would give bats a more positive role.  Bats are often seen as disgusting creatures, evil creatures, scary, etc ... and in Minecraft they are seen as background noise.  Something to smirk at when it catches on fire from lava.

     

    A bat house would teach children the values of bats, flowers, etc.  And make them less afraid of bats.

    Another thought:  When you run through the Bat House's area of effect at night (when the bats are out), there is a chance the bats will land on your shoulders! 

    They're just saying Hi.  They leave when you exit the area.  They aren't adventurers like Parrots are.  ;)

    Hello,

    This is Mark Abernathy.  Creator of the post.  I'm not able to log into my original account for the time being, but I wanted to come on and make comments.

     

    I'm thinking the Bat-in-a-Bottle is a bit inhumane and silly.  Since Bees can be leashed, perhaps just leasing the Bat and then bringing it to the Bat House could work.  :)  Bunch of bees on leads is adorable.  The same could easily be said for the bats.

    Love the idea! They're also good with fertilization though so they should help with growth of crops as well!
