Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Making Sponges Renewable: 1 Idea by ilMango and 1 by Me

On big servers, Sponges can be VERY difficult to come by, especially if you need a lot of them. 

Even on smaller servers of 15-20 people, finding and clearing enough monuments for even 1 stack of Sponges can be a daunting endeavor. 

I propose 2 solutions for making Sponges renewable:

  1. Guardians struck by lightning become Elder guardians. This idea was formed by ilMango and the Scicraft team. Even with the Channeling enchantment, getting a lot of Sponges is still a work-heavy task, but a dedicated player will be able to do it without bloating the world folder and clearing every monument around. 
  2. A crafting recipe for Sponges that includes the following: 1 Dead Bush, 1 Vine, 1 Stone, and 1 Piston. Allow me to explain:

Synthetic, or man-made, sponges are commonly made from 3 ingredients: 

  1. Cellulose derived from Wood Pulp (justifying the dead bush and the piston)
  2. Hemp Fiber (closest thing we have is the vines)
  3. Sodium Sulfate (a crystallized substance found within many types of stone, further justifying the piston)

    Yes, it does. 

    But it's not like wood, stone, redstone, and iron are difficult to come by. All of them are renewable anyway.

    The crafting recipe strikes me as really weird; the lightning idea, however, not only isn't without precedent, it also strikes me as very well balanced. I've given you my vote, but for the lightning idea only.

    I like the lightning idea too.  It's not too early game, since you need to obtain a trident and enchant it properly first.  Although I can just imagine someone using a channeling trident on the catch chamber of a guardian farm x3

    I think that the 2nd idea might be a way too easy solution to get sponges, one would even be able to get them without even visiting ocean monuments

    The 1st idea however seems fine. Got my vote.

    I absolutely agree with the lightning transformation. It still makes sponges very rare but able to be renewable with the proper set up. The set up also being difficult to make so it is still very rare. I see what you are saying for the crafting recipe but it is a little strange. Too strange for people to understand. Even if I looked up how sponges are made irl I would still be confused by the recipe.

    Here's my idea for a crafting recipe:

    • Wood planks - pulp
    • Grass, mined with Silk Touch - hemp fiber
    • Nether Quartz - sodium sulfate

    This would make sponges harder to craft but still somewhat reasonable.

    I agree with guardians being stuck with lightning turning into elder guardians
