Unbreakable enchantment (was: New enchantment for every thing)

 It would be nice if you could add an enchantment that works like the elytra, as it gets to 0 hp it does not break or let you use it. It is also a leave 30 enchant

    This is a neat idea.  However, I don't think it's vital.  But it would be a nice way to protect a very special tool.

    I would almost think it would be better as a treasure enchantment.  Something extra special, like mending.

    I disagree with this idea. I was under the impression that the elytra has this feature because it is uncraftable.... isn't Mending powerful enough already to prevent your favorite tools from breaking?

    It's a nice idea, however a little op. Perhaps if:

    1. Was incompatible with unbreaking and/or mending

    2. Was a treasure enchant so it's harder to get

    3. While it will save the item from breaking and will prevent players from using it, players should be unable to use it until it is fully repaired

    Personally I think this feature should just straight up be added to Unbreaking as a bonus. The only "challenge" it removes is looking at your tools every so often to see if they are about to break.

    This should replace Mending. Mending makes crafting tools almost obsolete for me, because I rarely lose equipment if ever.

    This is what "Unbreaking" should have been. The current enchantment is more of a "Can still break but lasts longer" enchantment, which could be called simply Toughness, which is not much of a magical thing to begin with. I imagine true Unbreakable to be some kind of upgrade to the current Unbreaking, a mutual exclusive thing.

    I was thinking of this as well, it'd be really nice for when you have an item that is for whatever reason special to you, and you don't want it to ever break.

    In addition to this though, I think Mending should be nerfed. With how it currently works, if something has Mending on it, it's basically unbreakable. I feel like Mending should be based more on making repairing in an anvil better (which I think would also require a change to how XP costs in Anvils work)

    I don't think a broken item with this Enchantment should be unusable necessarily (with some exceptions, like the bow and shield), but rather make them basically functionless until you repair them. (so you could still mine with a broken pickaxe, but it'd be really slow, and wouldn't drop blocks, and you could attack with a broken sword, but it'd be slower and less efficient than punching)

    I agree that this should be an enchantment. The only issue I see with it is the fact that the enchantment is extremely helpful with mending, but almost useless without it. Imagine a new player stumbling across an unbreakable shovel. They use it till it’s out a durability and are confused why it just stops working. Even when they figure it out they don’t have mending. There is no real reason to repare the shovel with an anvil as it’s cheaper to craft a new one and there are no other enchantments on it. The obvious answer to this is don’t let newcomers in early game get this enchantment. You should only get the enchantment when you have access to mending. Therefore, it should be rarer then mending. Maybe end city only or something like that.


    An option to consider:

    If it is deemed too op then consider making it mutually exclusive with unbreaking. Then the player will have a trade off between a tool that won’t last as long but will stop working when durability is 1, and one that will last longer but they have to pay attention to the red bar to make sure it isn’t lost forever.

    Maybe there should be a way for the tool to get that enchantment if you combine that tool with a totem of undying in an anvil.
