So this is just a small feature but it will be really cool if you guys add it, so Pet's can only sit and follow you, but I wish there was another mode so where they will roam around 5 x 5 blocks from where the place where they are commanded to roam around, so you can make an enclosure with your llama and dolphins and other animals and you can put your pet in the enclosure without your pet just sitting all day long.

Or, even better, the pet simply roams wherever they want. I mean, if you accidentally leave your dog on roaming and it goes and falls into lava, it's your problem- you have to be careful. Anyways, it would be nice to just let your cats go wherever they want in your house, and let your dogs go free in your dog park. It would also be great for building maps- A dog park doesn't look very good if the dogs are sitting down and not moving.
I suggested something similar to this, but specifically not as a new mode.
You can check it out here if you'd like: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360030102192-Pets-should-have-better-Following-AI-instead-of-Teleporting-I think the best way to implement it is simply a way to turn off the teleportation, and have them roam freely. This would work extremely well for making kennels, or bird houses, or cat houses. They would be infinitely more interesting if the animals moved around in them instead of simply sitting still
i welcome more interaction/control over pets. to have them actually path around my house like they lived there would be great
This would be good if pets didnt follow you, it would give a more realistic experience. And if you did want your pet to follow you... thats what leads are for! I just think them following you around everywhere is an unnecessary feature.
it would make them look less lazy and forgotten. Maybe, just to be nice to people who don't want there pets to wander freely (as other people have been suggesting) they can only wander/roam freely in Hard and Hardcore mode.
I have an idea for this too. Maybe, instead of them only being able to walk around 5×5 block spaces, they could go wherever, and if you wanted them to come back you could use some sort of a whistle, that makes them teleport back and start following you until you let them roam again!
Good idea I wanted this to happen to and I'm glad someone got it higher than I did.
I love having dogs and cats in Minecraft but I hate how they follow me everywhere because I'm so scared they're gonna die. :'( The alternative doesn't feel good either because when they do nothing but sit there they don't feel like animals anymore, just swiveling, barking/meowing statues. It's also a bummer because usually when you go to sleep your pet cat will bring you something when you wake up but if they're sitting this doesn't happen.
Epic Idea. It would be so cool if they could roam around but not get lost!
My only change to this would be a greater roaming area...say 20x20, or maybe even allow for multiple tiers of roaming selected by the player.
You could also add in a whistle so if if you dont know where they are you use the whistle and your pet will teleport to you
I suggest so they roam around one chunk and adding a pet's house like dog house etc and every time you sleep they teleport to their houses
I want something like that but maybe more of the pet roaming where they want and you can type a command/button/do an action for the pet to come back to you
What abut lying down or playing like rolling around
Maybe they can go wherever they want, and you can call them with a dog whistle or keep them in and enclosure like your house!
I think it would be great if they could have a mode similar to how the foxes act already. Of course you can still get them to follow you but say inside you can set them to roam around freely (This could go for dogs, cats, and even birds) they could sit, lay down, sleep, whenever and where ever. I think it would really liven up the game and houses and make single player games less lonesome. Just be sure to keep your front doors close because just like real life pets can easily escape and run away if a door is left open.
Like Fartydew409 suggested, a whistle of sorts could make the dogs come back. Or, maybe, a horn? With the up-and-coming addition of goats, and useable goat horns, that would be a great way to bring them back without adding anything unnecessary.
PLEASE, add this mojang. I literally cannot want something more than this. It'll help kids and teens become more responsible by making sure ur pets don't fall into lava, and also it lets you not feel bad about cooping your pets inside 24/7.
Minecraft Developers,
My son and I have been playing Minecraft together for many years. This game provides a beautiful way for a father and son to bond through creativity and adventure. I enjoy exploring deep into caves, and my son builds animal farms with the most amazing buildings and sculptures. It’s really meaningful to me when we venture into a new forest or abandon mine together.
I’m hoping you can help me with a problem. When we go on adventures, bringing a pet dog helps my son to be brave, and it’s a deeply sad experience for him, if his pet dies on our excursion. He and I would really love to see an option in peaceful mode where pets don’t die.
Thank you
