Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

It would help players customize their builds and add their own touches

maybe it can pop up a pixel grid and an assortment of colors and you can just tap/click on a square and it will fill it in with the color of choice it would kinda be like a Minecraft skin editor but for paintings. you can also tap/click and hold and move around your mouse/finger and it ill paint like you'd expect. there could also be a paint bucket that would well, fill in the spaces.

I'll just post my idea I posted on the other thread before it got deleted for similar topics. The painting item, as is, will generate random paintings as usual. However, placing this item in a new block called an Easel which has it's properties shared by the armor stand in its physics. The easel ui has this features, a canvas section where you can expand it to the largest possible size of the painting by adding wool, and a palette which is used to hold paint buckets. To make a paint bucket, you need a water bucket and a dye in the crafting grid. In itself, it is useless until you place it in the easel ui. Each bucket will have 16 units and 1 is consumed per pixel painted on the canvas. Finishing the painting would simply be just a click of a button called frame. This can be neat in multiplayer servers with art galleries from different users or for economy servers where people sell their paintings to other players.
Just late thoughts, the painting item will no longer be called a painting and it will just be called a canvas. To get the preset paintings, a new villager would be added called a painter/artist, he could also trade you emeralds for dyes.

Mrboiz1234 and Paul Mario Ubalde are absolutely right. I would say that the easel should be the painter workstation and that he should trade obviously the dyes, canvas, paper, wool, buckets of paint, which would be a new item crafted just as Paul explained in his comment.
I say that the easel could be crafted as such: https://pin.it/cdsatyamcqn353

In addition to this I believe a new item could be added. The paint brush. Which would be crafted as such: https://pin.it/ge5hp7jyfu2w74

This item would work alongside the paint buckets to ease to make all the colourful blocks in excess useful again, like concrete, terracotta, glazed terracotta, stained glass, and all the others. Let's say that I have lot's of white concrete, but I need black. I just place the white concrete down and paint it black using the paint brush and the black paint bucket in my off hand

    Thanks for your time reading

As helpful a feature this may be, this is already possible using item frames and recently made even easier with 1.14's addition of locked maps. Should this be added regardless, how would the interface work, given the simplicity of other GUIs used in survival? Will painting have a cost of dye items, and how may this potential cost be implented in a balanced way? Will these paintings have a maximum resolution? These are just some details to question for future commenters, if they want to try to find solutions for them.

Would love to be able to create my own paintings. As several people have commented. Create a block like the loom where you put in the materials you need to create the blank painting canvas. Have spaces to put all your dye colors for use to paint with. Also maybe a blending area to lighten or darken colors. Then just give you a blank dot matrix layout to work on a design with choice of sizes. Even be able to click a save project at work button so you don't lose it if you need to back out of the easel block. When you are finished with the design/painting. Click a Finish it or Seal it button and Bam! You've got a designer painting all your own. Maybe even put honey to another use and make it the sealant for the painting when finished. Also would be cool if you could choose canvas start colors like banners when initially making and different woods for different frame color choices. Thanks. Peace Out!

Hey I just had the same idea today
I thought it would be cool to craft a Custom painting on an artistry table

If you were making an adventure map for a server or for players to download, with this you can make your own drawings on a painting to make it even more awesome.

Or just have a folder you're able to upload pictures in that can be seen on your realms and single player mode

It should take time to make one. It should have a pixel art menu where you make the painting

I imagine it would be a separate item from normal painting. Like

Well, Willem H. As good as it sounds, that is a very tedious thing to do just to create custom paintings.

    1) It destroys the terrain. There are people that don't want to destroy the terrain just for a custom painting.
    2) You need to double check the area you are building for the map painting to make sure that the right pixel is placed.
    3) A waste of resources and time. You need to get the blocks needed, item frames, and the map itself.

This idea just makes creating custom paintings much easier and less cumbersome. It also has the benefit of being able to be shared online, unlike maps. No one wants to waste their time going to a far off area just to place blocks to create a map painting.

You can already make custom paintings with a map and an item frame

I also don't think you should be able to craft the original paintings.

I think it would be more interesting and exciting to find paintings by exploring. Maybe you find one in a ship ruin, or in a village. Maybe you have to trade with a villager. Being able to craft a painting is not very creative. It could work like how discs do, scattered about and unique so you would have to do work to find them all.

or on another note maybe be able to use camera 📸 pics that you’ve taken in the game from your feed and put them in frames 🖼 to hang.

Custom Paintings Sound Cool!! But what about you can edit the paintings like a painting mod. There should be a thing where you hold down crouch and click on a painting and you can edit the painting. You could upload images to the painting. Instead for people on java and they need to make a resource pack, which you need to make it a zip then extract it and it will take like forever, this should be added. But your idea sounds better!! :)

So uh... I revisited this page and remembered on how Archaeology was delayed and thought of why not Archaeology be part of a bigger update that involves discovery. I liked Olivia's idea of having the existing paintings be treated like music discs. Each painting should have its designated rarity and common ones may be bought from a Villager or a Wandering Trader.

I would change the paintings so they are obtainable only in loot (like sherds, discs and templates), and the original recipe will be to make a custom painting/canvas.

You could edit the painting in a new table where you can use dyes and mix them to make the color you want.

Personally, I really enjoy building (anything), but for example, historical structures or even simpler bases, the paintings we (the players) have created are more enjoyable than other paintings (of course, the ones in the game aren't bad, but still). I'm a huge fan of both the game and building, but the construction itself is probably lacking "our own soul."

Best regards to Mojang and the players.
(P.S. I wrote so much because I initially wanted to write to Mojang myself.)
