I think there should be a new type of ravine called a connecting ravine. These ravines will have bridges around the ravine connection to caves. Also, these ravines could have old and abandoned houses scattered around. Third for this idea, these houses should be filled with rocks and gravel and maybe wood like they caved in. forth, one of these houses won't be filled in but partially filled in with wood and rocks. This house is the bank/vault and will have a low-high amount of materials depending on the amount of ores in the area, the depth on the caves, or amount of bridges in the ravine. Fifth, there should be a lower ore spawn rate and half mined ore deposits in that area like it has been mined out. Sixth, there should be a special mob in that area called a skeleton miner (it looks like it's name) and these spawn depending on the amount of houses in the area. The skeleton miner can dig through stone and ores slowly and leave the drops on the ground, but if one has a backpack it will drop a few bits of cobblestone and and 1-5 ores/gems. Also, these have pickaxes instead of weapons so they don't do much damage. Another feature for the miner skeletons is, that they drop stone if they have a silk touch pickaxe when they mine blocks. Finally, there could be patches of TNT around the ravine to act like they were mining with TNT.
