I dont see a problem with rideable elephants it its maybe a second step after "taming". Its a fantasy game and that's a big trope

Elephants are a really good idea. They can also spawn near sugar cane because elephants love sugar cane. Also if you have large sugar cane farms out in the open, it can probably attract elephants if there are no wild sugarcane nearby, and they can come and eat it which would require you to build better farms. Two variants: African in the Savannah and Asian in the Jungle or Forest. They could be like 3 blocks high. I don't have a problem with riding elephants actually(actually would've liked the inclusion of battle elephants as well but since it's not so good for the animal then maybe not).

Yes absolutely add elephants and I know there are a lot of complaints about riding elephants but do you keep in mind that it is not a non-fictional game and when you’re going through all the work of taming and allowing that elephant to trust you it is showing more of a bond of friendship by allowing it to be ridden when you work so hard to take care of it I do however agree for there to be no drops of ivory and avoiding it altogether because that is cruel and should not be glorified at all and just for an extra touch of removing these elephants from being associated with real elephants maybe allow their food to be peanuts or something that is more fictional then true while also adding another new and fun item

And they could help us look for iron since elephants in real life dig for iron

Someone mentioned being able to harvest ivory by right clicking on the elephant, and I disagree with this. I think that poachers should attack elephants for their ivory, but if a player crafts with ivory they receive some sort of curse in order to discourage harvesting ivory. Ivory will not be craftable into anything that is worth being cursed for (perhaps just useless potions since ivory is often harvested for pseudo-medicinal purposes). However, the poachers will gain strength from harvesting ivory and creating pseudo-potions. This implementation will discourage ivory harvesting and create a distaste toward poachers, who will try their best to kill your elephant. This will help raise awareness for actual poaching, and will not glorify ivory harvesting.

Elephants shouldn't attack would be too strong when friendly/tamed. Instead I think their trunk should be like a water source source block. When engaged by a hostile mob the elephant uses the water flow from its trunk to push mobs away. Once elephant moves water source goes away.
Imagine the fun we could have picking up a friend for an elephant ride and he cant get on because you keep pushing him away with the water from the trunk.

The elephants should spawn in the savannah and in forests.

They could defend villagers and hold items (with their trunks) like iron golems and do significant damage to ravagers.

This would definitely help raise awareness of poaching.
