    Thanks for the idea Custardly23, I always wished for this feature because I play Minecraft on my Xbox One and it does suck.

    I remember this from waaaaaay back when. Also james hagan this was posted in 2018 when there were no shields. Just sayin.

    I want sword blocking back in the latest version:( It's easier and faster. It's also really convenient for bedwars and skywars players. My honest opinion about the shields is- I hate em. I don't have a legit reason other than its slow to take out. I just dislike them.

    Actually BMB shields have been in minecraft since the exploration update, which was like 2016 or 17.

    Actually Leo Jhonson, shields have been on Minecraft since the 1.9 Combat Update which was in 2016.

    Pretty sure no one reads these comments. However, Custardly23's idea is good. Yes, shields do exist. They are very good at their job, maybe too good, to the point that it slows down combat. The sword (in the older versions of Minecraft Java) does not fully block damange, but makes combat faster. For the sword block and shield to exist in the same game would, require changes to balance them.

    When it comes to balancing, the sword allows you to block still, but in turn, you still take damange from all angles. Shields would still preform the same way, but with added withdraw backs. Like every time you block, there is a delay which is longer than their current version. During the deployment time, if you get hit, your shield isn't going to work. This would require players to think ahead before putting the shield up. If deployed on time, you will be rewarded with all damnage blocked from wherever you face. Another debuff, is the player taking the twice more damnage if the attacking player or mob hits you, if you attack with the shield up. Making it more risky to hid behind a shield. The sword would be the more the risk-taking, and the shield being the more cautious play-style.

    That is not touching how sheilds can be balance more with tiers, along with maybe a weight system. Wood is what we sort of have currently, would be the fastest among all the shields when rised. In returned, wood is weakest. Netherrite shields would be slowest, but strongest with a knockback reduction.

    Shields exist but it would be helpful if you dont have iron yet. Maybe to balance it out it costs 1.5 or up to 3 times as much durability to block with a sword then a shield.

    I like all the Ideas. I would say that maybe the swords could have a chance (maybe 1 of 7 or something) chance of blocking an arrow, while a shield always does, giving shields a purpose but still having a source of defense against a skeleton on your first night, So instead of just running away, you could still defend yourself. Also, originally you could block creeper explosions with a sword. But what would happen in real life if you tried to block the blast of a bomb? Either the sword would break, or worse, you would hit yourself. For this reason, I think you should not be able to block a creeper blast with a sword, but instead, the sword would break if you tried, to make it a little more life-like. Finally, to give sword fights more of a sense of matching, a wooden sword would almost immediately break if blocking a Netherite sword, compared to a Netherrite sword against a Netherite sword. That way, you will still want to upgrade to a better sword, therefore keeping the rest of the game's purpose relating to swords, while allowing more epic fighting capabilities.

    Not going to happen devs confirmed in a recent ask Mojang because they said" Bedrock won't get 1.9 pvp because they are already redoing the pvp system" and jeb said on twitter the exact same thing on twitter very recently but they should return sword blocking.

    Bit of a follow up post given the thread is place in the category of parity (which you should check before reading this post.) I propose a few solutions to allow the return of the old sword block.

    The easiest method of adding it back in is to use crouch button as a single tap instead of a double tap (of course make it a optional for everyone.) The double tap for Minecraft Bedrock with touch screen controls lead to many times where there is a skeleton attacking and the player not being able to put a shield up on time. To block with a sword you first need to have nothing in your other hand, and you just need to crouch to block. However, there is no ability to duel wield which is important to prevent shields from losing their use given by using a sword, you are only reducing the damage and not blocking it. 

    Also, I don't know why I thought this was a good idea, but it might work. When duel wielding in mobile, you can have it so if you tap on a item in your second hand activity, you'll switch over to it on the fly. Might be a little clunky but it could solve some parity issues, I think... It could also be optional to have it work automatically and would remove the need to crouch to block.

    It might be a nice feature so I think that you could do it when your not using a shield, but a shield just is a more effective way of blocking.

    How about a setting that changes the combat system in bedrock to Java?
