When you are making your redstone suggestions, please note that Java and Bedrock will not have the exact same the same redstone systems - this would require redoing redstone system completely on one platform or the other. The two systems are functionally different and are going to stay that way. Please be sure to tag your suggestions with (Java) or (Bedrock).

You can do that easily with commands.

also it could only open doors for certain people

This can be accomplished with a pressure plate, though I would argue we need a special pressure plate that ONLY detects players and ignores mobs.

Another good way to do this in any orientation (wall, ceiling or floor) is to have the observer observe string. Though it will detect any entity that goes through it (Items, mobs, players)

Pressure plates and tripwires can already do that. Try using them.

The observer block used to be able to do that. I don't know why they got rid of it.

It should be another type of block.

you can just use tripwire hook

Observer + redstone ore will do this as well

Pressure plates??? Tripwire??? I think this is a good idea, but this would break many redstone contraptions if implemented. Imagine a self-building staircase powered by observers - if the player was to walk over the stairs, the contraption would fire and possibly break.

There are multiple ways of detecting entities already. Few that has not been mentioned being puffer fish or blazes to detect players. You can also use redstone ore to detect entities. :)

It should be its own thing, thiugh, like a sensor or something. Because sometimes you might want something that only detects blocks and not players, and sometimes you might want something that detects only players and not blocks.

@JPGongob I see where you're coming from, but it would be nice if we had something more discreet for traps than a pressure plate or even a 54802843 hook  (sometimes those are still noticeable).

Edit: *tripwire hook. No clue where 54802843 came from. Stupid autocorrect.

Mas um outro bloco (que poderia ter o nome Detector) poderia ser criado para fazer isso, caso contrário, afetaria alguns sistemas.

This is actually not needed if u put a string in front of the observer than it will see the player

It shouldn’t be an observer block. It should be a different one

Should add a new block that does that

I made a suggestion for motion sensors.

Maybe the observer should be toggle-able as to this potential feature, so people building redstone contraptions don’t have them messed up midway through by their own navigation of the build.

You can do that in a normal world if you step on Redstone ore than it activates an observer

I think this should be a different block. When building contraptions, you have to remember to avoid walking in front of observers. Also, pressure plates and tripwires can detect all mobs. If you're after detecting just players, I think a different type of pressure plate/tripwire would be better,

You could easily do that with tripwires, pressure plates, commands, or redstone ore. Also, observers only detect block updates and not entities unless they cause block updates so it wouldn't be fitting for the observers purpose, and besides you can just put string on top of the observer and get the same result but its a good idea it can just be in minecraft right now.

That’s an awesome idea that I’ve wanted for a while!

YESSSSSS so many redstone traps that I make could be simplified so much by this.

you can already somewhat do this by placing string in front of an observer

I'm sure a comparator could have a simple use for this, like only detecting players instead of mobs so it's faster or safer to enter animal pens, mob grinders, etc.

you can easily pull this off with some string and an observer, you dont need a tripwire hook. just place a string floating and a observer facing it, whenever you go over the string it will change and will put out a redstone output

Maybe a new block specifically for entities.

What everyone here is missing, is the ability to detect a player that isn't stepping on a block.

I just found this thread as I was looking for a way to detect when a player was passing up through a water elevator. 😉
