When you are making your redstone suggestions, please note that Java and Bedrock will not have the exact same the same redstone systems - this would require redoing redstone system completely on one platform or the other. The two systems are functionally different and are going to stay that way. Please be sure to tag your suggestions with (Java) or (Bedrock).

I agree with the need for in-game explanation of redstone basics. I think this should be part of the help pages (Bedrock has these, not sure if Java has them as well, it should). Maybe a notification pops up, and the help section is unlocked when you pick up redstone? People should not need to do something specific (like craft an item they wouldn't know exists in the first place) to get to this information.

There is a pattern in the red stone suggestions section where the posts are split into two. They are either suggestions to solve basic "problems" that are in-fact non-issues with existing game mechanics, or are about complex/ advanced red stone mechanics. There is very little in between, which to me is an indication of knowledge availability.

You shouldn't have to wait to learn Redstone. YouTube Mumbo Jumbo Redstone. He does a good job showing how to build components of bigger Redstone builds. All Redstone builds have similar components; in different form.

    Hints to building with Redstone:

Keep your redstone builds small. Your understanding of Redstone will tell you how big you can go. Your understanding will grow the more you experiment with components.

Start by drawing the STEPS needed to automate a process on paper.

Use the above library of components to solve each step.

When you begin to build, start by building the last step (usually a chest) in the automated process FIRST. (I know that sounds backwards).

Work back to the first step of the automated process (usually a button) you drew up. Adjust while building.

Keep a Redstone build world. This will help to remind you of what you learned and how your Redstone building understanding has grown.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

@UnlistedMonk The problem addressed by this suggestion is not that the information is unavailable. There is a ton of information about how to use redstone out there, from descriptions and examples in the wiki to tutorials in YT. The problem is the accessibility of the information. A game like this should not require going and searching for outside sources of information to be able to utilize a mechanic in the game. Most of the other things can be figured out in the game, discovered while playing it. The self-learning bar for redstone is however much higher, most people would simply give up before they understand what is going on. The game (not sure about Java) has help content about how to play the game. It could simply have content to explain the basic mechanics of redstone, the feature would be more accessible.

    @SpecialisToL

Minecraft Redstone teaches the very simple life lesson of continuous learning by effort. This lesson of the game is particularly valuable; look to outside sources for help. Looking to outside sources is a life skill that goes beyond Minecraft and YouTube. But Minecraft and YouTube are a start at this level.

I hope we never get a Redstone guide book. I hope they never treat us a babies, and spoon feed us. There is no book out there that contains all of the knowledge of the universe; there never will be. As it stands, Minecraft Redstone makes us, the community, work together, as we would in the real world, to make a better world.

In the real world, the big new answer isn't in an office or laboratory. Usually we have to go to a library or a conference or look things up online to find new information or ideas. The revelations from this effort inspire us to think of things in ways we hadn't thought of before.

The day will come when a players skill and discoveries in Redstone exceeds their education. When that ability comes through earned knowledge and effort it will be far more rewarding than if it had just been given to them.

The makers of Minecraft are doing that right now with this website, asking for feedback so they can have good, purpose driven ideas to make a better game. In other words, even they are continuously learning by effort.

As Einstein said, "If I have seen far it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants."

Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

@UnlistedMonk Very passionate and well written message. It is quite a bit off topic though. Nobody is suggesting putting things in the game that provides all the answers, or removes the ability to be inspired by or build on other's work. Nothing in this suggestion prevents, or removes the need to have tutorials and other sources of information provided by players. The suggestion is simply to have basic information in game. Libraries you mention are not useful, if people are not taught to read first. Sure you can replicate the pictures from the books without understanding, they may even work. That doesn't allow people to build on top of or improve them.

If still unclear, the basic information we're talking about would not include builds. It includes information like what does what is redstone power, what does redstone dust do, what does it power, what does a repeater do, what does a comparator do, what does a piston do, etc. Some of this is already in game, but the elementary basics are missing.

This isn't any different than what schools provide (especially college/technical schools). They don't solve the problems you'll encounter in your life. They equip you with the knowledge so that you can solve your problems yourself. Basic redstone knowledge in game achieves the same thing a school does.

@SpecialisToL Please read the suggestion again. It requests, "It can also help us with more advanced stuff". The suggestion is looking for more than just basics.

All of my Redstone training has come from YouTube. That training includes basic stuff. With that training I have not been left wanting when it comes to Redstone building.

This thread goes to the bigger problem solving tool box I was trying to describe. There will always be a new basic information topic that wasn't covered in school; because school was 20 years ago. How do people build a foundation for life long learning? How do people create a tool box for life long learning?

This one basic design of Minecraft is right just the way it is. Leave it alone.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

Terrible idea. With this, redstone pros wouldn't feel good about their hard work to learn how to use redstone because everyone else that is interested in redstone would know it. Plus, the fun of redstone is learning over time.

why not add an option for the tutorial world so you can choose between basic gameplay and basics of redstone/redstone circuits.

I think it is a great idea! Don't get me wrong I am great at redstone but it is hard for me to explain it I literally have to say what I am typing out loud just to send a proper message but with this if someone on my world asks how to make a complex redstone contraption all I have to do is throw the book at them instead of taking an hour to explain one step.

I don't think this should be added  1 the fun of redstone is learning it randomly! 2 there are 1000 of different designs for say a t flip flop  so I think that this shouldn't be added

the book can be like a beginners guide. telling the basics about a Redstone component. Without going into deep detail.

But I do agree that not too much info would ruin the practice of Redstone.

I see where you are going with this, but the whole point of redstone is figuring out how to use it.

I agree, but not as an item. I would recommend a section in the help tab.

@UnlistedMonk There are plenty of YouTube channels and other things online that teach you how to build Redstone machines, but

    1) not everybody has internet and

    2) how many of them can actually explain to you why the Redstone works?

When you learn math, we learn that 2+2=4, and 2x10=20, 10x10=100, if X is 10 that 4+x=14. But we don't just learn that; we learn why 2+2=4. We learn why, so that in the future we don't just have to look up online or use a calculator to figure out that 7+7=14, because we learned how and why math works, so we can figure out on our own that 7+7=14.

We need to be taught why and how; not told how to make something we don't understand.

This is needed some people have little to no internet access and money for buying browsers like chrome and books. But it could be on the Redstone help page which is accessible after getting Redstone it shows you some websites to look at and basic info and all the odd quirks to different blocks

Perhaps the librarian villager can trade the book for emeralds. However, the book should ONLY explain how and why certain redstone components work. The book should NOT contain steps on how to do redstone circuits as that would take away the fun of inventing and improving circuits, and that would crush everyone's style of creating circuits, making only 1 style of creating circuits revelant.

Minecraft Java (unlike Bedrock) never came with any tutorial. Learn by experimentation (exploring) - that's what Minecraft is all about. Yes, in the very early days there was a "play tutorial level" button in Java, but it never got implemented and was later removed.
