I like this idea, adds a bit of risk when getting the loot.  Of course, when it dies a chest should be placed containing random loot so that there is some sort of reward.  The structure it generates in should determine the loot table it pulls from.

This has been ripped off from a mod, I don't remember which. C'mon man, give some credit instead of stealing ideas.

actually, mimics aren't exclusive to the Aether mod, they are in almost every RPG game involving dungeons, whether they are table top, or on computer. the first thing i can think of that has mimics is Dungeons & Dragons.

Ah, already submitted.. would just add: can be nice if it also spawn in your house/base near your others chests. It should jump less high than slime, maybe 1 block jump.

Also I have to agree with the others, If it does get in, give credit to Aether. But besides that, I have to ask, how much damage does the Mimic deal and much damage does it take to kill one. And Also, this means it can drop Totems of Undying if Mojang uses LastDovahkiin12 's Idea.

Also, if it does spawn near your base, what would it drop.

yep i want them reallly much like terraria mimics, disguising as chests until you approach, they're very rare to spawn, only spawn in underground layers and are tough to fight, but killing them is worth unique drops

Mimics were created before the aether mod it isn’t a Minecraft mod thing it is probably a mythological creature

    Hmmm. I like this idea!

However, perhaps instead of actually spawning a chest where they are on death like they could simply drop wood planks in addition to standard loot based on the location. That way it's as though you had you break it apart to defeat it.

Why are people saying that this has been ripped off from a mod? Mimic chests are apart of so many different video games. It's not their fault that one guy had a similar idea.

It would be cool if it started attacking you only once you try to open it, and also was stealing an item you were holding when opening it.

If you'd careless and opened it with sword in you hand, you would have a problem with killing it.

As a old D&D player I would love to see mimics in the game - adds a risk/reward element for exploring

Addition along with mimics - baby mimics. These exist in Dungeons and Dragons, and are more likely to be friendly to the players. My interpretation of this for Minecraft is that you can actually tame a baby mimic! Then you can use it as a chest that can follow you around while you're doing stuff.

Yes this would, like shulker boxes, increase the amount of items you can collect and take along with you. It would be easier to obtain, and could be obtained earlier in the game. However, it wouldn't entirely replace shulker boxes, because like any pet, you have to worry about the mimic's safety. If the mimic dies, it drops everything in its inventory, and if you can't fit it all in your inventory, then you have some tough choices to make regarding what items you keep and what items you have to leave behind. Therefor, shulker boxes wouldn't be rendered obsolete, because Mimics would require maintenance and care to keep them from dying and dropping all your stuff, whereas shulker boxes just can sit in your inventory and hold stuff, and are much less risky to use.

T.L.D.R - Adding mimics in the game, include baby mimics that are able to be tamed and used as extra portable inventory space. This would not make shulker boxes obsolete, because mimics can die and drop your stuff, and you might have to leave stuff behind.
