controller support on java edition

After the legacy console edition of minecraft was replaced with the bedrock edition, many players just hated it. Since it was so similar to the java edition, adding controller support exctly like the one in that version to java edition "wood" be incredible

    I would love to be able to use the same controls that I use on Minecraft PE on Minecraft Java as well.  It gets confusing going back and forth. I usually have to relearn the controls.

    It should have a controller selection menu, and support for the Switch, Xbox, DualShock, Stadia, Steeelseries, and Steam Controllers.

    We shouldn't have to ask for it. I mean it's quite obvious not everyone likes to use a keyboard and mouse or have any of those.

    I've been playing on console and am now migrating to my Mac, but there is no PS4 controller support. I would love for this to be an option to be able to play the only way I know how.

    Yes. I often use a Switch Pro controller through steam to use gyro aiming, even when it makes nearly everything else more difficult. This would be great!

    I would like to see this as I have a disability and it’s much harder to play on keyboard and mouse.

    This is more important than ever for people with disabilities. Plus it has huge benefit for families and casual gamers. Do these people matter to Mojang/Microsoft?

    With all the new accessibility features introduced in latest Minecraft versions, controller support is a must for both non-bedrock Windows users and Linux users to have a more comfy experience with the game.

    So here's the thing, I'll vote on behalf of the people who want it because it should be accessible to everyone even if I won't ever probably use it. The other reason is that there's one thing that you can't do currently on java, you cannot move in a circle without turning your curser and that is a shame.

    How long past "should've been done WAY long ago" does this have to be before it finally happens? :(

    I'm disabled, and using a controller is MUCH better for my back and neck, than being hunched over to use keyboard and mouse. It's literally PAINFUL for me to game without using my XBox 360 controller.

    So I haven't been playing much as my condition is worsening. But my friends really miss me, and I miss them. Are you guys going to really keep us apart like this? And cause me pain? :(

    I have Steam set up and a decent fan-made control configuration... but navigating the menus to craft, sort, access chests/inventory etc is TORTURE on this type of control currently. So imprecise and maddening! I have to hold my breath to try and select something every time.

    So this work-around is NOT AT ALL sufficient. :(

    Please, give us proper controller support. Regular mouse/WASD type movement in normal mode... But then also, in the menus, the controller is put into a secondary function optimized to kind of snap to each square/button (by giving it a grid, basically), the way other games treat Menu controls vs gameplay controls. It CAN be done!

    Please? It's SO long overdue, and those of us who desperately need the accessibility are losing years of our short lives waiting and waiting, watching our friends slowly leave and we can't spend that precious time gaming with them... :(

    I need that, and support for many controllers. Dualshock 4, Dualsense, Xbox controllers etc.

    I desperatly need controller support added to Java.  I have played Java all My Minecraft life ( since the dawn of time) and now I have a disability that makes using keyboard controls nearly impossible and I have been forced to play on xbox or bedrock and I hate it.  Non of My Minecraft friends play bedrock.  I know there are Mods out there to use a controller but just having the option without messing with Mods would be a dream for handicapped players like myself.  Think about this please minecraft gods.

    IF we ever get controller support in Java Edtion it would be AWESOME to have so I can use my Xbox controller on java :D

    Yes! This is a great Idea! I have a Xbox for windows controller, and I just got Minecraft, I was So Upset when I found that Java is Keyboard only!! I Despise Keyboard Game Controls! I love my controller, and unless this is added in, I might never play Java... (I just do not even know how to control with keyboard) controller functions way better. I guess I will stick to Bedrock till this happens...

    Man I really hope Microsoft takes this into consideration.

    Especially now that the Steam Deck is a thing this is important more than ever. Idk how possible it is, but could older Minecraft Versions get the controller support? It would be so nice to just have as an option.

    I have a close friend who's only comfortable playing this game via controller, so he's stuck on bedrock because of this. He wants to join me and my buds on Java for our established build server, but he can't because there's no controller support and he isn't keen to figure out modding. This would also be great for people who just genuinely feel more comfortable with a controller rather than keyboard/mouse for gaming.

    It is frustrating that you cannot use a controller to play with friends who have other mods. It would be great if it was possible to toggle between playing with a keyboard or controller. I did not spend so much money to be unable to play. </3 If this does not change, I will not recommend this to anyone who primarily uses a controller.

    so dumb, I wanna play minecraft with a controller on my MacBook, but MacBook only accepts java edition, and java edition doesn't support controllers... so frustrating

    It doesnt even have to be the same as the old one. Id be happy with bedrock style controls on java. I have to play with a controller due to my hardware and living arangments. I play java with friends and genrally have a great time using controlify which seems to be the best mod in my eyes. However, like now everyone has updated and im waiting for controlify to be ported to 1.21.11 untill I can play again

    It's been done using mods so it's definitely possible. I have no idea why they haven't done it yet.
