Adding on to AquaBuzzardHR, I think that we should have more underground structures for example:

A temple similar to the Terraria Jungle temple, it would be randomly generated underground, with good loot inside, maybe some diamond gear, or some sort of new tool. There would be new mobs, and new blocks (only breakable with the new tool in the temple). The twist is you need a key. How you would get the key, it would be a difficult crafting recipe involving endgame loot, such as a nether star, and some of the new netherite, and maybe some new ender  dragon drop (just an example). Some new structures populating the underground would make it much more worth it to explore the underground.

I think there should be more structures in the caves like a nether portal that generates in the world and a cave temple and a Dungeon

We need a cave boss, maybe something like a golem. If more gems are added we could have something like the end portal where we fill it with gems instead of eye of ender (and stay in the overworld since it is a summoning sign instead of a portal).

    New Ores

Add gems like rubies and sapphires. Their tools could be better than iron but worse than diamond. They could also be traded with a new villager. The villager could be called a Lapidary, and he can make aesthetic blocks.

Add metals like titanium and tungsten. They could have higher durability than diamond, and mine better than iron. They can be more rare than iron, but found in the same range as gold.

Add steel. Steel could be made by eight iron and one diamond. It could be used to make armor and tools with higher durability than iron but not as good as diamond. Steel blocks could have some blast resistance.

with the new nether update and how it showed 3D biomes where one biome can be on top of another this seems a lot more possible now.

Just make ore and ancient debris spawns on a pattern, and not RNG, would be the best cave update.

i agree with this, i would like to see more gemstones and maybe more armor types based off of those? like sapphires and rubies along with respective armor types, maybe even add steel as a combination of iron and coal to have a sort of mid-tier between iron and diamond armor, we could add even more metals too like cobalt or copper and tin and have new alloys for different armor sets, have the different armor sets be at the same level as iron or steel (such as alloy and non-alloy metals being 2 different tiers of armor but different colors and maybe being interchangeable in crafting with iron such as pistons), the new alloys and metals could be cool for building too, have like steel or copper or bronze blocks for cool desert builds as an example, i think this update could branch off into so many amazing things and have so many cool new metals and gemstones, you could have rubies and sapphires and diamonds be at similar or same level too in terms of armor and tools and weapons too, i also think having lots of metal colors would be cool for building and also having mixed armor colors for diversity in armor would be cool, imagine playing on a server and different teams use different color alloys or gemstones for different teams (think one using bronze, one using steel, one using electrum, ect.) and it would just be very cool, caves long needed an update and i think adding lots of cool, different colored metals and gemstones and even adding alloys would be amazing

Caves in general are too common, too big and need better generation. I have a pet parrot and he wont stop imitating the mobs below him because I cant find that one single cave with all the monsters in it.

I think the best thing that could be done with caves should be a better generating system. I live out in the county and we have a little saying about random back roads, "looks like they followed a drunk cow when building this road!" That is my thought on current mineshafts, they just go all over the place with no logic aside from sometimes having a wooden bride over a ravine. Caves themselves should be random but they should also have a bit more logic to them. Caves generating in different ways in different areas would change where to build your base matter all the more. Maybe some areas could be more abundant with coal, iron, gold, lapis and Redstone with an area preferring to generate one resource over the others. This would make the place you decide to go mining in actually matter. As it is now, the only choices in how/where you mine are: go deep and strip mine for diamond/emerald, explore caves randomly or strip mine higher up for common materials and just quarry out a chunk for everything. If you found an area rich with iron you'd probably strip mine the heck out of that place and be set on iron for a while but you'd still need to explore other regions to accumulate other resources.

Certain mobs spawning in greater numbers depending on region would also make each area unique and go hand in hand with a good rebalance of mob spawns. Maybe there should be natural cave openings in the world, like a small, cobblestone mound that's opened up into the ground where bats like to be since they can also there during the day and come out at night.

It would be interesting if caves generated "Player Structures."  Common things Minecraft players do while caving generating naturally would add the weird feeling that someone else has been here in a single player world.  Some possible examples:

    Partially constructed nether portals frames.

A crafting table, furnace, and chest spawning in a line against a cave wall or in the bottom of a ravine.  The chest could be filled with common "out mining" stuff. Cobble stone, stone variants, torches, sticks, damaged tools no greater than iron and unenchanted, biome specific items if applicable. (it's not about the loot, it's about the feeling that another player was there.)

1x2 tunnels.  Would spawn either as one tunnel or a small group 2 blocks apart. Always start in a cave and may also end in one.  End once reach a distance selected from a range or when they encounter another cave, whichever is smaller.

The Mineshafts could be reworked, with special new mobs and more variety on it, not just long halls. As someone else said, Miner Ghosts or something could be added. Not that vertical biomes are also a thing, they could utilize it for special cave types. Maybe a glowing fungi cave, or a cavern of crystals.

I have a few ideas for Underground biomes.

    The Swamp forest
    an underground mushroom/swamp forest biome.

    The Dwarven Villages
    an underground hobbit-esc village

    Infested Dungeons
dungeons full of archapods and demon bats

    Buried Ocean
an underground ocean with deepwater dungeons.

New ores that can be used with redstone example copper. Copper can be used to pass redstone through blocks or only enable to power new types of power able blocks

Stalagmites and naturally glowing mushrooms that could be crafted into foodstuff that gives you a short burst of haste and night vision would be cool. maybe mobs that spawn exclusives underground, like stone golem-like creatures that throw blocks at you, they are weak to pickaxes and have resistances to swords, sometimes they drop common to rare ores. and giant snails that are passive and could be farmed for slimeballs and food. you can breed them with the glowing mushrooms. mole enemies that burry through soft blocks like clay, dirt, sand, gravel. a race of friendly mushroom people that have little huts. unlike villagers or illagers they don't go out of their way to attack the players nor are defenseless. they defend their encampments from enemy mobs. they farm the snails for food. they use rubies as currency.

rubies are less rare than diamonds and spawn around y level 15. rubies can be crafted into ruby armor. they are a little better than iron but not as protective as diamond. they have more durability than iron,

silver spawns at y level 14 and can be crafted into tools. it does one tick more damage than iron but has a natural smiting ability. kind of like a holy effect.

copper spawn around y level 16, it can't be crafted into tools and armor but copper blocks are highly conductive and can have special interactions with redstone.

adding more underground dungeon systems. instead of one mossy room, and entire maze of mossy stone would make exploration more interesting.

I want cobalt in the game it could be used to make armor, tools, and weapons that would be slightly worse than iron but better than gold. The gap between gold and iron is large andbi thing cobalt is the perfect way to fill it.

Maybe there could be crystals in caves, and different ones at each level... so that way strip mining isn't always the optimal option. To continue de-incentivizing strip mining, there could be crystals unique to caves that connect to the surface. Of course more ores... obviously... and maybe some new underground structures... make the dungeons actual dungeons. The mine shafts could be made more interesting too... with better loot, traps, more of a dungeon crawler aesthetic. I don't know... just a few ideas... hope to see this update soon!

Vast underground stone plains that you could find many underground mobs in. One Idea for a mob that could inhabit these stone plains and other underground biomes are Stone Golems/Constructs. You could find many different shapes and sizes of these mobs ranging from small, almost cow sized golems, to large golems the size of an Iron Golem. Maybe you could even fin the corpses of massive stone golems in the vast underground plains i mentioned earlier, maybe even adding one such massive stone golem as a mini boss similar to the elder guardian. You could also add the stone golems to mountains, and maybe a clay variant in the mesa biome. You maybe could even tame these golems by calming it down and putting a pumpkin or a jack o' lantern on its head.

Crystals would also be a neat addition, maybe whole crystal caves full of a ranging variety of colorful crystals. In addition to crystals you could also maybe add different tiers of crystal, each one can be turned into crystal dust, maybe the strongest of these crystals can be turned into a special dust that can be used to use magic similar to the magic used by evokers and illusioners.

Ghost miners are also very cool, maybe instead of making them always hostile, you could try making them more like the piglins by making them neutral in certain conditions and maybe they could also barter with the player in a similar fashion to the piglins. Another idea are larger dungeons with high risk and high reward. More undead enemies may be a good addition to the game, such as sword wielding skeleton knights. These undead enemies could inhabit the larger dungeons and maybe add a necromancer pillager mini boss to the end of each dungeon.

New ores should be added to the cave generation to give the game new exciting armour and weapons, there new gems and alloys could be used for brand new weapons added to the cave update such as the mace, katana, shurikens ect. As for the armour, brand new potion effect are granted when wearing the armour.

How about an abandoned miner base, like an big dug out area with some ruined wooden builds, perhaps an incomplete nether portal, vines everywhere and a unique mob there...

+ Currently the game doesn't tell new players to set up a nether portal and this way they can introduce it.

+ Maybe we can have some mining related loot like good pickaxes, etc.

+The unique mob in that area could be the one who attacked that place or perhaps haunts it.

+A new block: Chiseled stone having some cave painting like the Chiseled Red sandstone
+A new Tool: Chisel, Which can be used to make marks on the stone blocks

For example It may darken the pixels of the block making it appear as if carved out. You may do that by using a combination of different images in the resource pack to show each carved out pixel to make an "Image"...
