    I just want to add onto this a bit.

    I was talking to someone and they gave the idea of reinforced tools for some addons in the Cave Update that could be difficult to mine or unable to mine with things like iron, gold and possibly even diamonds. They gave the idea of steel tools and I thought it would work well. To make steel a process called "oxygen steelmaking" produces steel, hence the name. In the process both carbon and iron are needed. So, in the Cave Update I think there should be a new ore (and many more) which would be carbon. Steel could be used for reinforced mining and make mining processes go speedier. There could even be a brand new block added for this "oxygen steelmaking", similar to the brewing stand or something. Mixing the carbon and iron together to create steel.

    In my opnion, carbon should be semi-rare so you can't get steel almost right off of the bat. 

     

    Maybe we could even get rubies back or give emeralds more of a purpose. Maybe even some sapphires or something. All things that have been suggested before.

     

    Anyways, that's just my idea. I didn't think it warranted an actual post so I just decided to make it a comment here.

    I really agree with this idea because caves are getting a little boring to explore. We seen mineshafts, ravines, and diamonds now, it’s time for more ores in game!

    Something I see being profitable for a Cave Update is moving the world generation, like 32 to 64 blocks upward. Sure, it doesn't seem like a lot, but take into consideration that the height limit is currently 256 blocks. Most biomes only use up to about 30% of that space - by adding a deeper underground, more of that space could be spent by feeding worlds with juicy, newly generated content.

    From a technical standpoint, I understand this being difficult. Temperature and sea level systems need to be tweaked, plus old worlds would be completely nonconvertible. If it could be figured out, that would be amazing!

    With the amount of comments everybody's writing, it'd take 4 years to add all the features. 2 if we're lucky, and assuming that they didn't work on the Nether Update at all.

    This has roughly 20,000 votes, almost 4 times more votes than the highest voted announced thing, Meerkats. In my opinion, something that highly requested, should be instantly approved. I see how it could be challenging, but there is no excuse, as you guys just made a 3D biome tool/AI/McGuffin that made 1.16 possible, and is what caused the cave update uproar in the first place. people are posting genuinely good ideas in the comments, and as separate posts. How about, as 1.17, we have:

     

    1.17: (Insert Cave-Themed Title Here)

    You guys announce a couple of biome, like andesite cave, and spider dens or something, and a few new naturally generated structures, then come up with a vote between 3 highly requested cave biomes, like the regular biome votes. From there, have the regular biome votes at every event, and a cave biome vote alongside it every other event.

    I feel like a good thing to add would be new materials, such as ruby and copper. Another thing would be ores that could spawn in the end. I've seen this in modpacks, and it would be great to see implemented in vanilla minecraft. Another idea would be mobs that spawn only underground.

    I like the idea of cave biomes, but they should have an equivalence to the biome of the surface above. That way it would only require the modification of the terrain generator and not the biome system (a biome per 256 m tall column of any horizontal shape). I would also like that some temperate biome/s had "pre-update" caves, to encourage "mining travels", since the other biomes had exclusive features, like emeralds on mountain biomes (you have to go there to mine emeralds). But I think it would be better if the "biomed" caves were in the top half of the underground and the lower, were "pre-update" styled caves, to better match the real world, real "bedrock" caves.

    Stalagmite would be very unnatural in Minecraft, because what would they drop. They’d also have to be more graphic than the traditional block-like texture. Also using things like stone slabs and cobble walls would not be very natural and kind of annoying, as it would add more drops in a cave than normal. Again, unnatural and straying from traditional Minecraft

    What about coloured crystals that glow in the dark? Maybe make it advanced by allowing it to emit its colour.

    I.e. Red crystal emits a red light.

    Could acts as a crafting recipe for new redstone  lamps or glowstone!

    Mabye going along with the biome specific caves you can only get some gems (New ores/gems pls) in those biome specific caves and maybe undergound zombies have an undead miner look with a pick, and you could add a trader that only spawns underground and has trades you can only get from it but what it is or what it looks like is up to you

    Yea I think that caverns and differ breeds of bat's like vampire bat's that attack u and give u a new effect called vampires bite which over the cause of 10 min u will slowly take damage but not enough to kill u

    That's just my idea though😊😜

    There could be miner zombies with gold helmet they could drops pick axe and some new ores or coal and weak ores you could add new ores new cave biome a new block like the stone cutter but instead it’s the ore cutter it would cut the ores in to different shapes and maybe make them in to different items and blocks that are new and look nicer for building with them there can be Dungeons it would be like a strong hold but there would be more loot and new items enchanted books and Weapons and armor new armor new weapons and more and a new boss mob like a big spider or a big skeleton miner or something cool like that as well as some smaller boss mobs that are not as strong 😊🤩plz look at this and plz add this stuff too

    Oh umm just saying you know the mineshafts and the poison spiders can you make another type of block/misc item that the spiders make and can hang from like regular irl spiders just a suggestion—I’m new here but this is cool 😁

    OOOOH how about new ores? Maybe Stolake ore witch is common and... well. is hardened water. colour is light blue though can be used for equipment and can be mined with a stone pickaxe. And is the 2nd weakest armor and equipment... replacing stone equipment and chain armor. Wait did I say that? no gold is the 2nd weakest material. I am such a noob.

    Cave Bear - Aggressive Mob found in caves

    • Physical Description: Looks similar to a polar bear but with a different color pallet and some some differences. They have red eyes, sharp incisors sticking out of their muzzles. Their front legs are rather long and bulky, creating a hump on its back. They’re pelt is a mixture of dark brown to black with purple color blotches.
    • Spawning locations: Within mineshafts, caves and at night. 1-2 will spawn within a 60 block radius.
    • Has jockey variants 
    • Rears up on its back legs to give a heavy attack, slow though
    • light attacks with bites and claw swipes
