Hi !
We spend a lot of times in caves in minecraft but they didn't get any new or exiting features since a long time, that's why I think a cave update is due !
Some ideas :
- Caves biomes of diferent types of caves depending on the biome it's generated into, for example : Ice caves, bats infested caves, lava caves, etc
- Stalagmite and Stalagtite in caves, should be blocky, maybe like cobblestone walls
- More mushroms in thsoe caves?
- Mobs spawning only in caves?
There is a lot that could be done so that just some ideas, also the nether is a big caves, so it could be updated at the same time !

You could have a villager that works in the caverns and have like a mineshaft, then you can out abandoned mine shafts with a village with that professions table in it. It could be an entity that actually mines out a cavern and puts more things in his chests, like cobblestone, not something that’s to rare, maybe iron. And you could make so the iron golem attacks you when you open a village chest. I love the idea of a cave update and would like some new ores. The honey block is a very nice new block and I would like more blocks that SPCA’s be used for Redstone contraptions like, a suggestion is a magnetic block, and it would only make sense to craft it with iron(because iron is the only magnetic element)(or something containing iron)and another item, maybe Redstone which would push and pull blocks toward it depending on the signal level it will pull more blacks, this is a great idea in my opinion because it will open a new realm of possibility for things like Redstone doors, another suggestion I have, off topic from caves, out you should be able to stick blocks together with slimeballs, u click a block with a slime ball and then place a block next to it and it sticks, also you should be able to combine Redstone and slime balls to make Redstone u can place on the cealing and floors.
I have no idea if it has already been suggested as there are far too many comments to look through, but something I'd like to see in a cave update is unique dungeon designs. Currently, every dungeon for different mobs has the same square design and it'd be nice to give them unique looks.
It could have a non-square design or a twice as large design. Perhaps even add something like traps to them. I think dungeons would be a lot more exciting if this is done.
Maybe another cool biome could be the Underground Jungle. It would be a pretty rare biome and be of course a jungle underground. There are rock layers in the mesa biome already showing that there were different time periods so it would not be too far off from what I am saying. I think we could have big ruins of temples and other structures in the UJ and maybe even some cool creatures that have been "lost" to time.
here is a list of ores that could be made: ruby, gems (i know these are technicaly these are all gems but it wouldnt hurt right) dyed diamonds (you should be able to dye diamond blocks diamond armor diamond tools etc) crystals (you can dye those too) saphire, amethyst, consumable candy crystals (4x more common than coal) copper, steel, fuels gold (you thought gold breaks fast fools gold only has 10 durabilaty for tools and armor) snow gems, water gems (found in caves under water if you could add that also you can craft it with a bucket and get a water bucket)
Adding some things that could make mining a bit more dangerous and exciting would make mining & spelunking much more fun and potentially more rewarding (ex. a high-risk, high-reward scenario). I'm not suggesting anything too drastic, just different biomes or differently-generated caves, perhaps. As for the danger, new cave-specific mobs (mobs that don't spawn above a certain Y) would be phenomenal. Other things such as quarries, which could be uncommon generations found above ground, would add a layer of realism that I believe the game is currently lacking in. In that same vein (ha!), adding dig sites (and maybe some variants for variety) could add in more danger, say, with TNT. Adding TNT to a new kind of underground dig site would not only make it more realistic, but give a new way to find TNT, since right now, players can only locate it naturally under desert temples. It could be added to abandoned mineshafts as well, all-in-all adding another level of risk and reward to the game. Maybe there could even be some non-abandoned mineshafts, who knows?
But really. The game is called "Minecraft," after all, and most players spend a ton of time in caves. (Not to mention that Minecraft was originally named "Cave Game.") Caves are an intrinsic part of the game, but they haven't been changed much at all since the game was out of alpha, (besides the addition of granite, andesite, and diorite). It's been the better part of a decade now, and caves have been essentially untouched (the same goes for strongholds, but that's a different conversation). The Update Aquatic and upcoming Nether Update are giving exactly the kind of love to the oceans and Nether that caves need, and they are proof that the Mojang team is capable of improving caves. I'm not here to rant like others might be, I'm here because I love this game and want to see it become the best it can be. Mojang, millions of people agree that Minecraft is amazing, and you have always shown the continuous dedication to improve upon it. I know that many people in the community have been laying on a ton of pressure for a cave update (and the return of 1.8.9 pvp, which I'd also love, but that again is another conversation), and I know that you can't please everyone. Living up to the expectations, especially with a game and fanbase as massive as this one. But, I'd argue that the majority want the cave update, and you'd probably rake in revenue.
So, that's my spiel. Whether you are going to add a cave update or not remains to be seen, and I'm not here to make the decision for you. At the end of the day, I'm probably just another voice in the crowd. But if you got this far, whether you're on Mojang's team or just another player like me, thank you.
I have an idea. Maybe sperate all of these ideas. Make your own thread. For me reading all of these ideas at once is overwhelming and it will probably be the same way with whoever looks over them. Making a separate post would also most likely give it more attention and increase the likelihood of it being added. I love all of your ideas and would like to see them in game but it would be nice to see them separate.
You could make something like in terraria : copper, silver. Also you could have ores exclusive to certain biomes like chlorophtite in terraria. But I don't really know how to make a lot of ores like in terraria because there you progress in the game though killing bosses and after that step you have new ores available, but minecraft doesn't progress that way so idk
I think Mojang should add more stuff like abandoned mine-shafts and Mob spawners. even if it was an update at a time, it would give more of a story to the caves. I think it would be really cool if they added an underground village, and it would be a society of a different type villagers.
I think that the same old ores have been the only ores for far to long. We need different biomes in caves, and ne ores added with it. I also think there could possibly be new and advanced crafting stations. The cave update could bring minecraft to a new era depending on how deep the develepors get with it.
