I want some DEEP caves, with cool structures, Y=0 should be a lot deeper.

    I definitely agree.

Minecraft biomes became so cool and filled. But there is something missing, cave update.

Caves are pretty boring and empty, (my opinion) firstly, I think caves should be biome related.

Caves should have these spiky things, and adding slabs might be cool thing to add in caves.

For example, in swamp biome, caves should be slimy stone and slimes should spawn.

And maybe adding new mines might be cool.

But it should be focused on better looking and detailed caves.

That's my opinion, and a lot of people in social media really wants cave update.

With mining being half of the game's title, I really think this game needs a cave update. The aquatic update made it extremely easy to find loot and doesn't give an incentive for players to mine anymore. I know that mining is a core aspect of the game and that any small change could ruin it but we've seen no update for caves in forever (the addition of andesite, granite, and diorite didn't affect anything really). On top of that, it is getting extremely repetitive to see the same cave generations over and over again. That said, we are due for an update! I really like the suggestions mentioned in this post!

Maybe some new ores between iron and diamond, new ores to use before iron to flesh out the nooby side of armor and weapons, maybe some new cave generation and biome specific caves and cave specific mobs, maybe some biome exclusive cave mobs? new stone that can be used and found, maybe make granite diorite and andesite substitutes for stone like wood variants are. They could also increase the world generation height and the build limit above 256 blocks

I would love the idea of the torch still producing light when you simply hold it, so you wont have to craft so many of em just for one cave system, I would prefer that.. Thx!!!

    Mojang,

There is a lot of support for a cave update, and people have submitted a lot of ideas what should go into a cave update. Because of this I want to give my specific input and opinions on a cave update. I have submitted other feedback, but in my opinion a cave update is the most needed of any possible change.

There are five elements I believe are essential to the success of a cave update:

    1. Biomes and Layers

Biomes are the most obvious element of a cave update. There are lots of possible biomes that could be added, but some are less needed than others. And there's always the issue of how these biomes integrate with surface biomes, if at all.

I think the best way to implement biomes in caves is with layers. Vertically, the world would be split into three biome spaces: Surface, Upper, and Lower. Surface would be reserved for the biomes we already know. Upper would include some surface biomes and most cave biomes. Lower would include regular caves and some rarer or more exotic caves. Note that surface biomes may extend down to the Upper cave space. The lower layer should be composed of harder stone, to encourage cave exploration.

There are lots of options for biomes, but I think these biomes are necessary:

    1. Slime Caves - The slime chunks thing feels arbitrary. If slimes spawn underground they should either spawn everywhere, or there should be a way to visually identify "hey, slimes can spawn here".
    2. Lava Tube Caves - We find lava all the time when exploring caves, but it usually lacks structure with the rest of the cave, and is mostly limited to a specific level. And making lava exclusive to these biomes would make the path to the Nether more interesting.
    3. Fossile Caves - We hardly ever see fossils. They're there, but we don't see them often. A neat way to make better use of this structure would be to have caves with an abundance of fossils protruding from the walls.

    2. Generation and Structures

Overall, the appearance of caves needs an upgrade. They are small, repetitive, and seem messy. Cave tunnels need to be more varied and often larger. There also need to be more recognizable structures besides ravines, and ravines themselves need more variance: For example, they could generate at odd angles, or have a wider range of lengths and widths.

Dungeons could also use an upgrade, but I think people have hashed that out enough elsewhere I don't need to go in depth.

    3. Sea Level

Going along with the idea of larger cave generation is the idea we need more space for caves to exist in. If sea level were higher, caves would have more space. The ocean would also benefit, as it could be deeper. And this shouldn't be too difficult to do, since build limit is so high.

This would also allow for more layers to the underground space. So instead of just having Surface, Upper, and Lower biome levels, like I mentioned, there could be an additional Middle biome level, to help better indicate the progression of depth as the player descends.

    4. Ores

A lot of people are suggesting adding tons of different ores with a cave update. I personally think this is unnecessary. Minecraft isn't Terraria. There is value in simplicity. That said, I wouldn't oppose the addition of one or two new ores if they add something interesting besides another tier of armor and tools. What I do think needs an overhaul is how existing ores are distributed.

One big problem with the current system is that ore quantities simply increase the further down you are. Thus the ideal depth to mine is always Y = 11. I would prefer if, with the addition of cave biomes, ore generation was more biome-dependent. Not just in terms of overall quantity, either, but in terms of the optimal Y level to dig at. In mountainous terrain, perhaps diamonds would occur more often around level 30. Or perhaps coal should be harder to find, except under a desert biome. Or redstone could occur more often at the edges of a lava cave biome. The point is to make mining more interesting and allow players to target specific ores they need with different mining techniques.

In particular, iron needs to be a little harder to obtain. There is no point to getting leather armor because iron is so easy to get: You just punch a tree, make a wood pick, make a stone pick, and dig down a little. This is a survival game. Leather armor should be the go-to armor at the start of the game because it should be significantly easier to obtain a surface resource than a cave resource.

    5. Mobs

A lot of people are also suggesting adding a ton of different mobs. I agree we need more mobs exclusive to caves, but I have no strong preference for any specific one. These mobs should be more difficult to fight than your typical overworld mobs because they should present a challenge to geared up players. In general I think the further down you go the more difficult and aggressive they should be.

    Also:

    NO Stalagmites and Stalactites

I know a lot of people want these, but I'm just not feeling it. They don't feel like classic minecraft. Stylistically they just don't work with the blocky structure, and there is no reason we can't have a change in cave generation that adds them in full block form.

A cave update would be very nice! I personally think that more features like the already added mine shafts would be very fun to explore.

I think minecraft caves really need an update. They are the same for quite too long. You can add cave mobs and monsters, new cave sounds and definitely, bluestone.

Maybe in the nether there can be an ore that’s not as good as iron but it will give you fire immunity and as a sword it has fire aspect

I was also thinking about cave biomes too, some biomes I've thought of would be:
Overgrown caves (caves full of vegetation e.g vines)
Mushroom caves (caves with mushrooms and mycelium. Could even have glowing mushrooms which are exclusive to that biome )
Sandstone caves(normal caves but use sandstone instead of stone and spawn husks instead of normal zombies)
Cave spider caves (spawns cave spiders and is full of cobwebs)

    Ideas for Minecraft Cave Update:

    - Add crystals (hanging on walls, ceiling and on the ground.)

    - Add a new type of mushroom

    - Biome for caves

I've been playing Minecraft since the alpha days. and I have to say

every time I go in a cave or find a dungeon I feel like it's never changed, besides some water and

a few new ores. we desperately need a cave update. like better dungeons if we have a huge woodland mansion we can have a dungeon that feels bigger then a 7x7 cube that a noob could do beater. maybe also something like ruins, temples and maybe even a small town or city found underground. I would also like to see some new type of ore I'm thinking like steal something in between iron and gold for armor and weapons and also tools that gives you more armor points and damage but less durability, but not like gold because gold is just sad something more like iron               also I think it would be neat if the caves themselves look beater like cave grass or stalactites and stalagmites. stone that gets harder to mine the deeper you go. so like dirt stone - rocky stone - regular stone - smooth stone - hard stone and solid stone. each one gives you two more cobblestone than the last. also some mobs specifically for caves. and lastly crystal caves biome a rare biome in caves that has crystals a new block that you can craft in to crystallized  glass. that you -alex

One idea I really like to tie into the Village and Pillage update would be a rare chance for a village to generate with another new type of villager profession called the Miner. These villages could come with above ground access to a new type of mine-shaft that would be a non-abandoned version of the abandoned mine-shaft. These could be complete with functional mine-cart systems and the like.

the Minecraft wiki says 1.15 will not focus on caves but they should

how about more unique mobs that spawn in the caves? For example, maybe a miner type zombie/skeleton? These mobs wouldn’t be like their ground dwelling counterparts. These mobs have always have some sort of item to attack the player with (think pickaxes and crossbows) and they would have some unique drops as well included, but not limited to, a miner helmet. The defense of the helmet would be about 10% less defensive stats but some other features as well, like a 0.5% chance to double the drops of any ore you mine and of course a light! Now the light wouldn’t be unlimited you would need to craft a new one if the old helmet runs out of juice (all you need to do to repair the light is to put it into a anvil along side some glow stone). The recipe of this would be your helmet of choice in the middle of and almost surrounding it string, but above the helmet would be a piece of glow stone.
    But that’s just my opinion

I totally agree with this! I feel like since the whole focus of the game is mining and crafting, we should have that expanded upon. Keep diamonds the highest tier, but maybe add some more ores and gems - but nothing like the diorite, andesite, etc. Its been the same system since a long time, so make it more interesting!

I believe the ghost miner is a perfect idea. Not only that, but perhaps a new type of dungeon? Perhaps a more challenging one, such as more spawners, mobs, and traps, (Like the classic jungle temples and sand temples, btw where did the jungle temple go?) And using different types of blocks, such as the polished andesite, diorite, and granite. I dont know, but it would be an amazing and new game changer. (I like the new update, especially traveling villager, thanks.)

Me interesa mucho esta idea y he aquí una propuesta: poder encontrar fósiles de dinosaurios que te servirían para armas y armadura de hueso.
También podrían poner nuevos bloques que utilizan este

I really like the idea of biome specific mobs, but maybe it would also work with ores? I've seen some comments about more types of ores so maybe they could be biome specific. That would encourage people to explore more biome caves.
