    Sadly, I doubt this will become a thing. The way biomes generate in Minecraft would need to be completely reworked.

    - New Ores.

    - Underground seas and rivers with unique fishes in them (at least 1 or 2 dangerous) and there could be even lava rivers when you go deeper.

    - Better and bigger cave generation, because sometimes you can mine for ages and find a cave that is like 3x2 blocks with coal in it, like why.

    - There could be some food source in the caves, so you won't need to go to the surface.

    - New boss underground. Probably spawn in a small cube room. He could be really powerful with a lot of health like 200 and to have armor and if you beat him he drops his weapon and have a chance to drop some of his armor.

    - The diamond not to be the best ore of if it is to be harder to find and to need better pickaxe if there will be more ores so if you want the best gear you must mine longer than just iron and then instant to go for the best ore to create the best gear. Or there could have different diamonds the have different mining requirements and create different kinds of gear.

    - Better dungeons. Like you go in one room and from this room you can choose where to go (left or right) and each different room has 2-5 spawners, and have loot inside some of the rooms. You can find stairs to go lower and lower but it gets harder and harder with better and better loot.

    - Underground villages. Like some kind of mine with rooms with villagers in it and you can trade ores with them.

    - Not hostile mobs only in caves.

    - Some light source in the caves like glowstone in the nether. It could be some kind of bug that glow in the dark and if you kill it will drop glowstone dust. Or crystals that can be find in some crystal caves (with crystal dragon inside? could be good) and glow in the color the crystal is. For example if the crystal is blue it will glow blue and if you break it will drop crystal shards that can be used to create crystal blocks for decorative purposes or the crystal shards will be used to create some items like some kind of torches that glow while holding them, glow in the color of the crystal shard and have better light range than a regular torch.

    Yeah, I agree.

     

    As an idea, I think it would be pretty good if they added 
    a type of villager who went to the caves and that you could
    see him hovering and biting, even trading minerals, I think
    it would be a villager with whom he would exchange.

    I think cobalt/bluestone should be added, along with ruby (an equivalent to emerald that maybe could be used for nether trading (maybe actual pigmen can be added))

    This is an excellent idea. I think some new ores (ie nickel, silver, tin, etc) would greatly benefit Minecraft as a whole and add a lot to the game.

    My favorite idea is the underground biomes. I'd love to see some real elements of danger and adventure added to the caves. Maybe some areas like spider caves with spawners and cob webs? Or graves with skeletons and zombies? I love the idea of having a reason to explore caves instead of just strip mining for diamonds for a couple hours pfff.

    It would also be neat to see some unique things happen near bedrock, like maybe a damaging effect when you get close, or a layer absent of anything but stone.

    Along with that, seeing some extra mobs that only appear underground would be awesome!

    I think that different types of Large insects and bugs could spawn to give a unique threat to different caves

    Scoprions in desert caves

    Centipedes in jungle caves

    mosquitoes in swamp caves

    Deep in cave there should be gas, this gas would give you poision effect this gas could be stored in bottles and can be used for some potions.

    The cave update is definitely something that is much needed, an idea too would be to increase dig depth to allow a much more vast cave system. A game that executes cave beautifully is Terraria. One of the things people love and fear to explore are caves and all the resources they can yield make it a much worthwhile journey.

    The idea of the traveling trader was good for villagers but in a cave update why not a lost miner? Maybe if you rescue him you’ll get an effect similar to hero of the village but maybe it increases your chance to drop more ores like fortune. Or cheaper trade costs. You could find more dungeon types too, the only dungeons we have in caves are strongholds and spawner dungeons and those two could be updated. Underwater caves could have drowned spawners? Or maybe a new Variant of an existing hostile mob or a new mob alotogether wouldn’t be bad. This could open the door to other avenues as well, updates to strongholdes. With a lowered dig limit you could change things in the nether and the end as well adding avenues for really brave players that seek high rewards with high risks.

    Minecraft is an amazing game many have been playing since alpha, beta, etc.. we would all love to see an amazing cave update, hopefully this idea and some of the ones I’m posting have been considered or in the works. :)

    For Caves, I'm not sure how much Mojang are willing to change?

    If they don't plan to change much, new mobs or items that can only spawn in caves would be a start, some sort of rock creature or mineshaft dweller that can drop possibly a new object or an ore etc.

    If they do plan to change generation then most certainly biome caves, Desert caves should have a different style to taiga caves or jungle caves. Jungle caves could have large openings with vines coming down whilst desert caves have sand and dead plants in the corners.

    I'm not sure how much this could change but what if they increased how deep we could dig downwards, the current limit being extended with a new Hardstone block. Lowering the bedrock level further down. This hardstone is similar to obsidian as it can be mined but will take a very long time without the right tools. This is where the grind comes into play, you can only go mining so deep with correct tools. Whether players can use diamond tools to break it or not is up to Mojang. But if not then players will have to use a new tool or new grade stronger than diamond to break through the Hardstone to reach deeper depths of the world than ever before.

    A lot a posts are made at this thread so i don't know if this has been suggested yet, sorry if it has. 

    I suggest improving mineshafts with some rather minor stuff, when u see a mineshaft u get the idea that it was build by people, but no confirmation is really given. I would suggest to add some stuff such as like living quarter rooms inside which you would find beds and chests. This would be where the miners slept and the chest could have some loot inside. Armory rooms would be cool too, rooms where the miners would leave their tools and the armor they would wear. I would suggest for players to be able to loot the armor and tools but don't make them really valuable items, maybe just iron armor and tools. I would also suggest that mineshafts have actual entrances from the surface, just some simple stairs that lead down would be good enough in my opinion. Maybe add some small details such as holes left over from TNT explosions, dynamite was used by miners back in the day, dunno if they still use it today. You can obviously hold torches in your left hand but a miner helmet with a light would be a cool item. Another idea that i had was to add an ambient noise which would be the sound of a pickaxe being used to hit rocks, this sound would be randomly played when u get close to a mineshaft. Someone suggested an idea about Ghost Miners and i'd say putting these guys in the mineshafts would be the perfect spot.

    Exclusive mobs could spawn like        

    • new spiders

    • dead miners

    • ore fish (like silverfish but for ores)

    And maybe exclusive items 

    • new vines

    • ore chunks hidden in stone (when broken more ore than normal )

    • special enchanted pickaxes from dead miners (could be something like auto smelt,higher enchants like fourtune 4? maniac miner where when crouched blocks in a 2x2 or 3x3 area will break ect)

    I like the idea because the caves can be more interesting and it'll be fun to come across new and unique mobs and items that would be found only in caves. I haven't completely thought this through but here's a little list of things I would like to see:
    *Glow-worms that can provide the player with some light.
    *dungeons
    *ruins
    *maybe an occupied underground town/or city
    *mini cave biomes ljke for example a cave that has a water hole and a little bit of life growing around it like some moss or grass with a few flowers with a waterfall coming from above the cave and possibly a lost explorers book or treasure that can be found under forest biomes and something a little different for each biome.
    * lost miners who became zombies or skeletons or maybe they are just corrupted and greedy by all the treasures deep down and new mobs like vampires, minotaurs, cave bears etc.
    * I also like the thought of rope for a safer way of getting around and cave maps for easier navigation.
