Maybe there are slightly different kinds of wolves (even coyotes, the foxes, etc) in different biomes and if you tame them and breed them with ones from other biomes, they turn into different breeds. For example, say you find a brown wolf in one biome and a black one in another, breed them together and you get a dog that looks like a German Shephard.

I would definitely love to see different variations of dogs. I love animals in general, so I think this would definitely help out a lot of players to be able to tell the difference between who's dog is who's. And I hope it's not much to ask for, but I would absolutely love to see pugs! A Pugs and Paws update?

And some of the dogs have droopy ears or pointy ears or long tails or short tails

Dogs are a great part of minecraft, their lack of variety currently is unfortunate. Having color varieties would help players tell their dogs apart in multiplayer servers and provide incentive for players to breed more dogs.

And Maybe they have different facial features as well kind of like how the cat skins look different and their faces are different as well.

Cats have a lot of species in Minecraft, so dogs need them too! I think they should have biome specific fur, so they can be realistic in that biome.

There is a resource pack for this that should be implemented in the games, its name is "Breeds" but it doesn't work very good... anyway I think these different types of fur should be in base of the spawning biome, grey wolves in the mountains,  huskys in the snowy biomes and so on...

(sorry for my english I'm Italian)

I think they should have different spawn eggs

Yes! If somehow you could spawn all kinds of different dog breeds from Great Danes to Chihuahuas than that would be insane! The original wolf-dog is cute, but now that Minecraft has all sorts of cats why shouldn't there be all sorts of dogs? Yes totally its a great idea!

Yes but please do NOT separate into wolf and dog. I am not a fan of the ocelot/cat separation. Please keep wolves as wolves and be tamed like they always have been. I will be absolutely devastated if i can't tame my wolves anymore. I can't have a wolf companion in real life so that's why the ocelot/cat separation bothers me too. If we could revert the cats to be ocelots again, it would be fair. They can have the fur but still be ocelots. Even add the original fur as a possible variation. Thanks for reading and if you vote!

I personally like that idea but they could also add different dog breeds that maybe wander villages like cats do.
Here are some of the breeds I would want to see:
    -Shiba Inu
    -Husky
    -Labrador
    -German Shepard
    - Newfoundland
That's just a few breeds I would want in game, there are others but they might be a little hard to get it to look like the breed.

Yes, and then when you breed them the the baby  gets the pattern from one of the parents and gets the color from the other parent.  (kind of like horses)

I would really love the wolves to have different skins like the cats. It would be so cute.

I really love this idea!!!! There should also be a slight size difference in certain breeds of dogs considering how many variants in dog sizes there are today. The attack damage the dogs do can depend on it's size.

ie. Bigger dogs do more damage, smaller dogs do less damage.

It could be like how you find cats in villages. Sort of like strays, each of them being a different skin instead of just a wild wolf wrecking a village.

I think they should work the same as ocelots and cats, as in wolves and dogs are two separate mobs. Stray dogs could spawn in villages along with cats, and maybe the dogs would chase the cats

Yeesssss, everyone has so much fun finding their cats in Minecraft but all the dogs look the same :(

Edit: wouldn't it be cool if different kinds of dogs had different stats like horses, I mean horses have a fun level of uniqueness in that they are all different.

If dogs were like this some breeds would say, do more damage or would be faster and they would all come in different shapes and sizes

Also: what about different fur types like fluffy, normal, short, furless or maybe different dog types can be found as stray dogs to be tamed

Maybe The dog fur can be based of off real dog breads! Ex: Golden Retriever, Shiba Inu, Bull Dog, & chihuahua.

It would also be cool if they added an oficial dog mob.

Instead we could craft coats/armour for dogs (like horse armour)

Or they could be naturally generated in dungeons

Its kind of sad as Dogs have been with us for longer than cats, but only cats get a change. it would be cool if the certain colours meant that they did something special- like go and retrieve an item or do more attack damage, or just bark at a mob.

i think they should keep it simple with a similar model with different coloured fur and spots of different size and colours placed randomly to ad uniqueness
