Are you sure you want to report this?

Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways" slabs.

Item transport tubes

I'm kind of torn on this one because it feels so uncomfortably much like modded. Don't we have ice streams already to transport items across long distances? At the same time, it would be useful to transport items upward this easily, and less lag is always good.

Out of curiosity, what texture do you have in mind for this block? What behavior should be exhibited when you start connecting a bunch of lines of tubes into and out of each other?....

It is a little like modded, but at the same time it’s basically the exact same mechanic as hoppers, only specialized.  I don’t think you should be able to split a item pipe stream, just like you can’t really split a hopper stream.  You can have multiple feeding into one, but you can’t have one feeding into multiple.  At least not without doing a workaround like feeding it into a double chest and using two hoppers to pull out of it again.

I’m not sure what kind of texture would be ideal, but I imagine something that would merge well into the export end of a hopper and tile cleanly.

And if you think ice streams are the ideal way to transport items over distances, you obviously haven’t seen the moment when Mumbo Jumbo made a circle in Minecraft, Hermitcraft season 5. X3. He was AFKing at his pumpkin and melon farm, using water streams to transport the items to his storage system.  Except the ice line went out of his loading distance because his base is too big for its own good.  The items backed up where they went into unloaded chunks and he crashed the server when he went to find the problem.  Before the server crashed he saw so many item entities in one spot that they formed a circle.  He then ripped out all long distance ice lines and replaced them with hoppers.

All right, fine, you've convinced me. It does seem more limited and specialized than modded tubing, but useful. You've earned another vote.

I haven't seen that escapade of Mumbo's, sounds like he had a difficult time XD

Good point about the recipe.  I think using nuggets to help make the shape is a great idea.

Good, we need some non vanilla things in this game anyway.

transporting items upwards would be gorgeous - the dropper simply causes far too much lag.

One more thing, to really differentiate this block from hoppers: They would transport the complete stack, not only 1 piece from the stack. This way, they would transport MUCH faster and reduce current hopper-based-lag a LOT!

I love the ides of tubes/pipes, not only for all the technical stuff, but also the creative stuff - having some kind of horizontal pillar-/beam like structure would be amazing for a fair bit of my builds.

I think, this minecraft forum thread has a lot of great ideas of limiting pipes/tubes on a technical level.

For instance, the limit of 16 pipes/tubes after each hopper seems like a good way of preventing them from becoming OP.

This would be amazing and it would be far less laggy than water streams/hopper chains/dropper chains.

This would be a great addition. I'm not using THAT many hoppers in my farm but the Server is already laggings noticably. I have replaced them with water/ice streams where possible, but that does not really solve the problem.
