Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

I'd love to be able to build my own ship out of blocks, though if that's not possible bigger boats would still be cool

I love this idea. Since sails are usually not made of wool, maybe you could craft them from new item, like silk? This would open up even more options, like silkworms and or even flags.

we need bigger boats with sails and more storage than the chest boat that has been recently added

What if, instead of crafting a whole ship you crafted a small raft that allows you to build on, and design your own ship?😐

A new boats with sails on it would be awesome.

However, the idea of crafting the whole thing on the crafting table doesn't really seem minecrafty to me. The parts to the boat could be made with the other tables in the game like the Loom (for sails &ropes), StoneCutter (for the mast and bow), etc...

Though this would be a good chance to add docks and harbor structures to villages near oceans and rivers.

There you'd have to wait for one of these new boat to come delivering goods to the village... there you can either pay or commandeer the boat...

A problem I see with adding large boats to Minecraft now is that water is simple and flat. Players would want more "realistic" water, with waves & caustics. Which would defiantly be hard and take a lot of time to get right in a block game.

I think if a block like the floatater (from the April Fools potato update) was added it would allow for the construction of ships in a way that fits Minecraft. There could be gravity and antigravity variants (antigravity crafted with a normal one and phantom membranes?) and they could be activated with redstone to turn them on and off. (The antigravity types could spawn in End Ships naturally as a way to make them functional.) In addition to this, one more block could be added to really bring the idea to its fullest potential: The Steering Wheel. The Steering Wheel would put off a small redstone signal when in use and would allow you to "mount" it when in use, giving you control like with horses or boats. So, a Steering Wheel placed on the ground wouldn't do much other than put off a redstone signal, but if attached directly or through a line of redstone dust to a "floatater." You could take control of the rest of the build the floatater is attached to and pilot it.

I really like the helm idea some people mentioned. If this were added I think there should be more blocks like the helm that you can place at different parts of your ship. Perhaps a ram to attach to the front that can sink other ships. Or sails to make it faster. A rudder for more maneuverability. Maybe, since firearms aren't allowed, you could craft a ballista (a really big mounted crossbow) that can be placed on the ground or on a ship, and it can knock blocks out of other ships.

I do not think helms should be crafted with Eyes of Ender; that's far to expensive. I think when a player mounts the helm for the first time a screen should show up where the player designates the bounding box of the helm(water and air excluded). The smallest possible, three wide by four long by two high, would take one XP level. A huge thirty long by 10 wide by 20 high would take 20 levels, and after that ships would be to big to be practical so it wouldn't take any more.

Furthermore, these XP levels would not be used up, but stored in the ship until the helm is destroyed(sending the ship to the bottom of the sea), in which case the XP would all drop. (This would make for some interesting griefing situations I think...) This would mean that you'd have to defend your ship tooth and nail in a PvP world, or Your enemies are going to get all your XP.

To make them easier to customize (place or brake new blocks), the boats could have a mechanic similar to Happy Ghasts, where they align to the closest cardinal direction when a player dismounts.

flintlocks are still rather futuristic for the rest of minecrafts pvp arsenal but perhaps medieval handcannons and fire arrows could make it as new gunpowder weapons

add boats the size of the sunken ships and make a sinking possibility

Yesssss this is awesome!! maybe in the boat basement part (I think it's called the lower deck?) you could place things like a bed, crafting table, furnace, chest, etc. a bigger boat would be useful for lots of things like transporting all your pets at once without having to take multiple trips back and forth across the ocean. and then the bigger crafting table idea could open up tons of other possibilities for big things, but it should be harder to get than the regular crafting table. I do not think there should be guns though. all in all I love this idea! Also there should be ways to customize it, like adding banners

Absolutely - a large sailboat with a small cabin big enough for a chest and a bed that players can use as a moveable base to explore the world. It should be challenging to build, requiring wood, iron, wool and string. It needs three blocks of water depth so can't be used on small rivers and requires you to build special docks.

Similarly - a slow-moving carriage also with small cabin that can be drawn by 2 horses or 2 camels across flattish ground (can go one block up, max two blocks down) could be introduced at the same time. Again, requires lots of wood, iron and string to build

ooh yeah a horse-drawn carriage would be awesome, and if you have multiple things like this (ships, carriages, etc) it would require a special thing to use to make them, and that special thing could open up so many other possibilities

also yes it should definitely be hard to make and i love the idea of 3 blocks of water depth
