Alright, First off, ancient cities as a concept are awesome. But… In survival there is no real reason you need to go to them. These are a very late game structure and yet they provide only a few unique items most of which are made mostly only for early game and not really necessary for the player or worth the risk/effort. This could really be anything but I suggest something largely game changing for any player that earns it. Bear with me. Breeze rods seem really genuinely cool but all they really do is craft the mace. You do NOT need 3 stacks only to use one rod. I have a few way to fix both of these. First the infinite firework (elytra) using a stack of breeze rods and a crystal (from the city) and 7 copper. it does almost seem too good but you DO have to go through the ancient city AND the trial chamber. What? You don’t like that one? Alright fine how about the instant transporter using some sort of crystal again. It launches you into the sky and then back to the ground onto the other one. It’s shaped like a lightning. It could maybe even consume some emeralds or a diamond on use. This is made frequent travels such as a trail ruin you are excavating and must be exposed to sky.
