In many games, especially sandbox or survival games like Minecraft, when a player dies or drops items, those items disappear after a short period. I propose that the despawn time should be increased or changed into a different mechanic, especially considering how many technical players spend long periods AFK at their farms. When they get killed, they often don't even realize it until it's too late and everything is gone.
One concern about increasing despawn time is the potential for lag due to too many items staying in the world. To avoid this issue, the game could implement a "loot box" system. When a player dies, instead of dropping items all over the ground, their inventory could be stored in a single loot chest or box. This chest could stay for a limited time (e.g., 1-2 hours), giving the player more time to retrieve their belongings without generating lag from multiple item entities.
This change would create a more balanced and less punishing experience, especially for technical or AFK players, while keeping performance issues under control.
