Lava could definitely be a lot more "glowy" and it should cast a stronger orange light on surrounding blocks. Maybe take some inspiration from fan-made Java shader packs like Complementary Shaders or BSL. Here are some examples of how lava could best look:

I don't think it should be reflective... Lava irl isn't so neither should Minecraft lava. Plus it just looks strange

Lava is way too red. It should be an orange color like usually but have more bloom/glow.

The lava (as well as fire) right now has a blu-ish tint to it that looks sort of strange. Lava should assume a warmer tone and producer a more intense glow.

I found that the appearance of lava in vibrant visuals didn't communicate its temperature quite as well as it could have. Torches, for instance, seem to have a much higher emissivity than lava. I think if it were less red and more yellow/glowing it might look a lot better. The color contrast on its texture also seemed a bit high.

For me occasionally, the lava looks pink (which is definitely the wrong colour for lava) when I first look at it. I don't know why, but soon after, it fades back to red. I also agree that it should be much more emissive as well to make it look much hotter.

I would absolutely LOVE for the lava to look like how it does in minecraft dungeons. It looks so good

I think you should take a look at the defined pbr shader, especially for caves. They do an amazing job with lava, and I think glowing ores are also a great thing. I think if you could make lava's glowing pixelated like for the others glowings and shadows, it would render very well.

If lava could reach the stage of the Complementary Shaders or BSL with the orange texture and glow, then I think it would be absolutely perfect! (The other comment mentioning these Java shaders is spot on)

Lava is a light source, so I don't understand why it has directional lighting on it? why are some sides darker than other sides?

it should glow and not be affected by directional lighting (or just be brighter than it)

The first comment mentioning how lava should cast a strong orange glow as shown in the screenshots of shaders is absolutely spot on as the lava in vibrant visuals currently does not look great mainly due to the fact that it doesn't quite communicate its temperature properly. Giving lava a strong orange glow would be perfect as it would actually communicate its temperature really nicely.

The fact that lava has darker sides is super weird, true. And lava should cast a more orangey glow, like in previously mentioned shaders.

It needs to glow a lot more, or maybe be more transparent.

Now that I know where to give feedback, I'm glad I can share my thoughts. Overall, I haven't experienced any bugs, but lava with VV is extremely harsh on sensitive eyes like mine. Maybe tweaking it to be more yellow/orange instead of red and reducing the lighting (bright/dark) contrast help? I'm not entirely sure, but I can't go to the Nether with the visuals on. Hope this helps

more glow is an absolute must because caves and the Nether look the same for the most part. But the bigger problem I have is with Vibrant Visuals now, the lava looks more like Taco Grease then actual lava so maybe redo the texture.
