To make PvE combat more interesting, mobs should have different attack patterns, particularly mobs with melee attacks.
Most hostile mobs attack every second (20 ticks) when they're close enough to the player, which once learned gets pretty stale. There are some exceptions though, like Hoglins, who attack every 2 seconds with knockback.
The idea is to have more attack patterns like this, and here are some examples of how that can be done:
- Endermen can have a charged attack, which when in range, the damage builds up until it releases when you escape or attack, kind of like an electric shock.
- Blazes could make use of their rotating rods to deal melee damage in a faster way, by dealing you half a heart of damage every 0.25 seconds (5 ticks).
- Mobs with melee weapons can have different attack patterns too, like Piglins with swords can do sweeping attacks, whereas Wither Skeletons can do strong attacks.
This would make the attacks more personal to the mob, as opposed to having a default for everyone.
