Similarly to the Recovery Compass, recovery items are made by surrounding an enchanted tool or gear with Echo Shards.
For instance, a Recovery Pickaxe is made with any enchanted Pickaxe and 8 Echo Shards.
The goal of the Recovery Item is to help you quickly recreate the original item.
Like a Template in a Smithing Table, a Recovery Item can be placed in a new third slot of the Enchanting Table. This lets you enchant the new item with all the enchantments of the Recovery Item, at a cost of experience and Lapis Lazuli.
Pros:
- You can keep a recovery version of your favorite tools at your base and feel safer exploring the world.
- You can use this mechanic to transfer enchantments between items made with different materials (iron to diamond to gold).
- The Enchanting Table is now able to create end game items and can compete with villagers.
- Echo Shards and Lapis Lazuli get more end game uses.
- Your beloved first enchanted tool can be turned into a Recovery Item and be brought back (at a cost) whenever it gets destroyed.
- Mending is still more practical when the item is not destroyed.
- It's thematic with the current use of Echo Shards.
Cons:
- Echo Shards are a finite resource and I don't think there are enough of them in the game to support this mechanic right now.
- The bookshelves around the enchanting table are irrelevant in the process I have described.
