Aside from flowers, there are no unique plants in temperate biomes. The upcoming nature / ambient drop is the perfect time to add popularly requested temperate plants.
Wet, temperate biomes like rivers and swamps would benefit from cattails, which would generate similarly to sugar cane. These could even replace sugar cane in temperate and cold biomes if an additional crafting recipe for paper was introduced, using wood. They could be used as an alternative source for brown dye and would create more realistic wetlands.
Swamps would benefit from flytraps, in line with Mojang's priority of introducing rare and endangered species (like sea turtles and pandas). These could be flat, 2D models like flowers, and would need to grow next to water, like sugar cane. When stepped on by arthropods (bees, spiders, cave spiders, silverfish, endermites) they would damage them like wither roses, adding unique functionality. They would only reproduce by killing these mobs, spreading like sculk. Bone-meal would cause them to wither into dead bushes or leaf litter, as real-life flytraps have lost the ability to grow in nutrient-rich soil and can no longer tolerate it.
