it's not a bug unless the community says it is.

Absolutely agree with this petition. If I may add something, removing the ability to sprint-crouch and sprint-crawl further hurt the mobility, making already slow movements much slower.

If this is "parity", you should introduce this "bug" to bedrock edition, because it is more fun to have more options for character movement, instead of nerfing fun part of java edition

I can only guess that this is some misguided attempt at feature parity with Bedrock edition, probably a directive that Microsoft is pushing on Mojang. They need to realize that if "feature parity" means making Java Edition worse, then we don't want it. The "unrealistic" movement difference does nothing but make the game feel better. If it's really that much of a problem for controllers, then have the game detect input method and adjust movement based on that, although even games with controllers have had this sort of thing still be possible without issue (like in most Halo games up until at least Reach (if not later), when holding a heavy weapon that you ripped off of a tripod). Yeah, it's not intended, but it's *fine* and it adds depth to the gameplay. This doesn't just affect competitive players, it affects everyone by removing a cool trick that's fun to use and which could easily be considered an originally-unintended feature instead of a bug.

Also, on a related note, the fall damage height change is absurd. Why should we *constantly* be taking chip damage and having our hunger bars drained? Do you think that makes the game more fun somehow? There have been other changes made to movement recently as well, such as the "sprint sneak" technique being made impossible in a recent main update (which also made movement with an elytra on become incredibly clunky in certain situations). Why? It existed for nearly a *decade* and made the game better and made the game more appealing.

Minecraft should allow us to "do anything we want" this "bug fix" is just oppressing us and make the community build about it fall apart, we want to change back, and to make it parity, why not add it to bedrock to?, this was bug, but it was since long long ago we didn't even know it, you cant fix the problem deal with it, we love it that way, CHANGE IT BACK!!!

Minecraft PvP is already split into 2 catagories. 1.8 and 1.9+. changing such a key mechanic is just gonna make this community even more diverse which isn't a good thing. It'll make people unhappy when playing the newer versions and they'll want to stick to 1.20 and not explore anything new, and maybe even quit the game completely. This change is not good, please revert it Mojang.

please do not nerf Java to make Java as bad as Bedrock, make Bedrock as good as Java, if you're going to do parity, otherwise it's not worth it, I'll just play older updates if it's not reverted.

Why is it so hard for Mojang to be connected to the community, let alone one of the largest community.

REVERT THE MINECRAFT MOVEMENT CHANGES!!! they are unnecessary and negatively impact ENTIRE sectors of competitive gameplay including but not limited to: pvp/general combat, bedwars and similar style games, certain parkour puzzles, general player mobility, possibly even redstone capability. this "bug" has been around for ages, and as a veteran player, if this change stays i will be pissed lol.

I am in complete agreement, but like... "Speedbridging community"? Speedbridging is highly important and I can recognise that even if I'm not good at it but I doubt there's a whole community around speedbridging lol

Don't get me wrong, I hope this petition goes through and the changes are reversed. I simply find it silly for there to be a community around speedbridging of all things lmao

You are changing the whole entire game's mechanic just for a nerdy bug report? Nobody wants it to change...

Why do they keep fixing what isn't broken and end up making it broken?

This will not only negatively affect all facets of gameplay due to the fact that walking is one of the most fundamental activities in the game, but it will also negatively affect many servers- minigames, adventure maps, parkours, and more custom servers such as Wynncraft which are all built around the current speed of the player, their ability to strafe, and other such movement actions. Yeah, some of these things have been patched out before, and some of them were very niche- a "crouch-sprint" thing I saw recently was one, and while that's surely disappointing it can't really be argued it wasn't niche... But such a massive reduction in speed for something as ubiquitous as strafing, after it's been in the game so long, is shortsighted. Even the much more minor nerfs to walking and sprinting are a definitive downgrade. A nerf such as this, bug-fix or not, is just unnecessary and overly damaging to too much.

I do agree with this comment but I would also like to have this back.

Can we get sprint shifting glitch back?
I know it works for many other things as well but that's mostly known for that name. I think it should come back because it adds a depth to the movement tech in Minecraft, when its gone you don't really have of the that.

This is an awful, useless, and entirely unnecessary change. Why was it even considered in the first place to mess with the very core of a system such as movement? At this point it shouldn't be considered a bug anymore, even if it originally was a bug/bad implementation of movement logic, it has since become an integral part of the game whole communities rely on. Furthermore even casual players (who don't follow any news about updates) will wonder what the hell is wrong with their game, and will probably get irritated by it.
