Dear Minecraft Development Team,
I am writing to propose an enhancement to the mapping system and cartography table in Minecraft that would allow for boundary customization on maps. This feature would be invaluable for players who create large creative kingdoms or dedicated survival factions, where borders often transcend biomes.
Key Features:
-
Boundary Customization: Players can designate boundaries using colors from existing dyes. These boundaries should be visually distinct yet blend seamlessly with the environment, similar to bodies of water.
-
Dual-Layer Maps: Introduce a "boundary map" upgrade, allowing players to switch between the traditional map view and a boundary overlay. This adds a secondary visual layer to existing maps for enhanced territory management.
-
Interactive Maps: Enhance maps with a zoom-in feature, enabling players to scroll and navigate as seen in games like Red Ded Redemption II, Europa Universalis IV, and Genshin Impact. Could apply to traditional maps as well.
-
Biome Highlighting: Allow players to automatically highlight entire biomes with a chosen dye, creating boundaries based on existing biomes. This feature provides an easy way to demarcate natural territories.
This system would provide significant value to territorial players and those who wish to document specific locations.
Drawing a border would be easy on PC. For console, holding X (PlayStation) or A (Xbox) while navigating the D-pad should be recommended if there is no alternative.
