the idea is simple, i think having the ability to specify items in a recipe that get consumed on craft (or replaced, like with full buckets to empty buckets) would be absolutely Invaluable for datapacks.
it'd be specified as either which single item, list of items, *or what slot/slots* isn't consumed when crafting. optionally it could even include a "probability" option, so recipes could only have a Chance of not consuming an item.
i think this would make for a really great addition, allowing for new unique crafting experiences, like making foods require some kind of chopping implement in the recipe, or making magical recipes have a chance to leave you behind some material, or more silly stuff like making every recipe not consume any materials, or making all the recipes with unconsumed materials use every item fully up.
it's just such a versatile yet simple addition, so i really hope it gets considered.
