I would like to propose an enhancement to the Crafter block to improve its behavior in automated setups. Currently, when slots in the crafting grid are disabled and resources run out, the Crafter defaults to crafting the closest item possible with the remaining materials. This behavior, though unintended, often results in unwanted outputs and disrupts automation systems.
To address this, I propose that the Crafter only initiates crafting when all enabled slots in the grid are populated with the exact required items. This adjustment would ensure the Crafter produces only intended items and avoids crafting unintended ones when resources are incomplete.
Examples of Current Issues and Proposed Solutions:
-
Crafting Doors:
- Setup: Disable three vertical slots, leaving six planks to craft doors.
- Issue: If planks run out, the Crafter crafts buttons or pressure plates instead.
- Solution: The Crafter pauses until all enabled slots are filled with six planks.
-
Crafting Pickaxes:
- Setup: Disable two vertical slots on the bottom left and right, fill with 2 sticks and 3 planks or stone blocks.
- Issue: If only one plank or stone remains, the Crafter crafts hoes or other unintended items.
- Solution: Ensure all slots are properly filled before crafting.
Suggested Design Change:
The crafting grid should act as a schematic rather than a standard crafting table, initiating crafting only when materials match the template exactly.
Thank you for considering this suggestion.
