Minecraft Snapshot 24w45a completely overhauled item models in an impressive way, with various item properties that can be used in versatile combinations to create increasingly customizable custom content. However, still lacking is the ability to change an item model based simply on its name. While 24w45a allows players to change models based on whether an item has a custom name or not, it seems that it still lacks the ability to change an item model based on the specific name of an item, i.e. "Flame Sword" to give a netherite sword a fiery texture. Adding a property in the same vein as the Damage or Custom Model Data such as "minecraft:custom_name" that can be used with the Select item model type would allow for players on say, a server with friends, to each texture/model their tools and equipment uniquely to them, while still being able to see other players' custom items as well (provided all had the same resource pack installed), without the necessity of a server-side datapack to provide Custom Model Data to the items, and negating the need for client-side modifications such as Optifine or CIT Resewn to provide this functionality.
