Currently, most minecraft players only use steak or golden carrots for their main and most times only source of food. I believe this causes many things like all the other meats plus other vegetables and foods to become useless.
My idea is so that each food has its own "nutritional value" like protein from cooked meats and other foods like raw meat and cookies nearly useless. If one of your nutritions are high, you can have little boosts like increased attack damage up to 1hp but if other 'nutritions' are low, this can cause problems like weakness from lack of protein.
The small boosts could be: strength, regen, speed. Using these boosts lowers the nutrition level. Possible future foods like sandwiches(shouldn't stack) and newer soups/stews could have multiple boosts based on what it is made of. Water could also become useful by giving boosts too.
Another thing that will help with all foods being useful can be like golden food can sometimes give you hunger if eaten way too much.
