My suggestion is, since the Creaking is a mob made of wood, that it could merge with the trees of the Pale Garden if you stare at it for a few seconds or if you show it light, since it only appears at night, maybe is afraid of light and retreats.
Maybe because pale garden is so quiet with really loud noises, such as playing goat horns or crossbow fireworks could make it slowly retreat backwards while still staring at you. It would slowly merge with the wood and enter the tree trunk, leaving only its three bright orange eyes visible, which would close one by one until it was completely fused with the tree it entered without leaving a trace of its presence. Then, from that tree, particles would emanate from the ground, forming a path through the roots of one tree to another, allowing the creaking to move from one to another and out of another tree to catch you off guard again.
