The Creaking should definitely be a mob you hear before you see. I think the warden climbing out of the ground mechanic would work nice with these guys, except have them come from inside the trees.

Someone made a good suggestion of having their eyes close when you are looking 'directly' at them. I think that would give spooky feedback that they know, that you know, they are watching you.

I personally the darker parts of his wooden form should be a bit darker, he just looks a little flat.

I think the Creaking should be taller. Definitely taller that the Enderman. Also, players should get the creaking heart only at night-time and only from naturally generated trees.

Creakings should slowly close their eyes when being observed to blend with the surrounding trees.

Creaking hearts should be renewable, maybe by growing pale oak saplings in the pale garden biome.

The creaking should defineteley drop something. Creaking eyes maybe? That could make for a cool redstone block that detects when a player is looking at it. But I think anything really will do. Also, make the creaking slightly faster than the player, so that you actually have to look at it and walk backwars. In its current state, you can just run away.

The creaking turns and faces random directions even if the player is looking at it, somewhat ruining the effect.
It also feels like on FOV > 80 you can very much see the creaking move, the experience feels different depending on your camera preferences.

I think The Creaking is an awesome new addition to the game. It's clear that one of its purposes outside of the Pale Garden is to allow the player to gamify it and do whatever they want with it. I think this is awesome and makes doing minigames like this a lot easier for the player. However, there is a bit to be desired in terms of what the player can control with The Creaking. As it stands, it looks like The Creaking doesn't do very much damage, which is fine for hunting for Creaking Heart Blocks, but not so much for making mini-games with it. Since the Creaking Heart Block requires wood to surround parts of it in order to spawn The Creaking, using other wood types besides the Pale Oak could lead to a lot of interesting differences with The Creaking. Here's a few ideas I had:

Birch Wood - The Weeping Angel behavior is inverted, attacks you when looked at and doesn't move otherwise

Cherry Wood - Completely pacifies the mob

Mangrove Wood - Mob will always try to attack the player

Dark Oak Wood - The mob will do twice the regular damage

Oak Wood - The mob moves faster

Acacia Wood - The mob moves slower

Spruce Wood - The mob's attacks ignores armor

Jungle Wood - The mob can link to multiple Creaking Heart Blocks

Crimson Hyphae - The mob's attacks inflicts fire damage

Warped Hyphae - The mob's attacks inflict slowness

I understand this would be a lot of work texturing and programming wise, but I feel like it could be a fun addition to the mob and be really fun to experiment with!

We should be able to name a creaking to keep it from despawning during the day!

A second idea I have, is please add fake Creaking statues throughout the biome. Which can be mined and used as decoration.

The creaking should have multiple models. Because it is a mob based on a tree, every creaking spawn should have some variety to it, just the same as the trees do when growing.

Placing specific blocks around a Creaking Heart should summon a Creaking with a different behavior, maybe having it attack hostile mobs instead of players.

Creaking Hearts continuously give the darkness effect in a certain range.

The Creaking should drop Pale Oak Saplings instead of the leaves. This change would give players a reason to go to the Pale Garden at night and defeat the Creaking.

I feel that the creaking should deal slightly more damage to make it a "scarier" threat than it is right now, also make it run slightly faster so that the player can't escape it by just running.

I feel like the Creaking should do more damage overall. Maybe this can be balanced by only having Creakings spawn in the Pale Garden, decreasing the amount of Creaking Hearts there, or having its damage go through armor.

The Creaking should deal more damage and have a drop that makes it worthwhile to defeat multiple of them

i wish we had a spawn animation, something like the creaking getting out of the trees, like he's part of the trees, and please make it do more damage, it feels weak!

You must create a new item to drop, a potion for example to put a luminescent aura around you and make light.

Give the Creaking heart a dual purpose like holding the heart or having it inventory ensures you are silenced in the Ancient Cities, or hostile mobs keep back a set number of blocks or such.

Since there's currently no reward for defeating the Creaking, maybe Player-placed Creaking Hearts could spawn Creaking that attack all mobs instead of just Players. I don't think this would be too powerful, because the Creaking would still only be able to attack the mobs when they look away, and Players would have to strategically place the Creaking Heart so that the Creaking couldn't get to any mobs that they wanted to stay alive, like pets or Villagers

The 3 biomes I have checked were super small, it would be cool to see them be larger!

Right now the Creaking only deals 1 heart of dmg on normal and 1.5 on hard. The mob poses less of a challenge than a zombie right now.

It would be interesting to see the Creaking attack more mobs, right now it doesn't even attack Iron Golems (though Golems do try to attack it, but to no avail)

The Creaking particles cannot be seen if you have particle settings on minimal. As someone who has to have particle settings on minimal this means I can't see where the Creaking Heart is. Maybe if the Creaking Heart emitted a sound (like a heartbeat) the got louder the closer you were could be a thing.

It needs some kind of unique drop.

On the topic of the creaking being weak, it is really easy to neutralize them without even caring about the heart by breaking two blocks under them. For this reason, I would make it so that their roots prevent you from breaking the blocks they are standing on. This would also be an interesting and new mechanic that could maybe be put to use in some contexts in technical minecraft.

Pale hanging moss currently stops pale oak saplings from growing even though pale oak leaves do not.

Make creaking drop some sort of new item.

Currently does one heart of damage without armor. This is nothing and cannot even be considered a threat. Five hearts of damage without armor sounds a bit better. Players need to be made to respect the special mechanic when interacting with it, not just run around and take the monsters hits with ease.

Secondly, right now there is no incentive to actually interact with the creaking. Perhaps the creaking heart could have a different drop if it is destroyed normally compared to when destroyed with silk touch, could have a useful difference when placed by a player, or the creaking mob itself could drop an item when destroyed.

We need a reason to go out and encounter creaking, like a unique drop somehow. Right now the only thing worth doing with the pale garden is grabbing a sapling and leaving.

the creaking isn't nearly fast enough and/or doesn't do nearly enough damage to be a threat. don't get me wrong its really creepy and  had a jump scare turning around a tree and seeing it camouflaged... but while messing around in the pale garden... i just walked through the forest unharmed. they cant keep up even when i was walking and with zero armour they did 1 heart. the creaking is scary when you realise this.
